Description

Multi part print to make a case/enclosure for a GigaByte MRZNRNS or MRZNVMS mainboard as sold on AliExpress.

 

You can make a minimum version, as shown in the last two pictures. Here you only print the minipc_top-Body.stl, minipc_bottom-Body.stl, onoff_short.stl and the appropriate back panel (backpanel-Body.stl or backpanel_2-body.stl) depending on the model (MRZNRNS = backpanel-Body.stl, MRZNVMS = backpanel_2-Body.stl) you have.

!!! IMPORTANT !!! - you must provide feets (as shown in the last picture) to allow cold air into the case (as shown in the last picture) - the PC will become to hot, if no air circulation is possible.

 

For the full version, you print all the parts, except you only need one back panel depending on the mainboard version (MRZNRNS = backpanel-Body.stl, MRZNVMS = backpanel_2-Body.stl) and you should only print the onoff-Body.stl button (do not print onoff_short-Body.stl). So the files to print are:

minipc_top-Body.stl, minipc_bottom-Body.stl, onoff.stl, frame_top-Body.stl, frame_bottom-Body-stl, feet-Body.stl (x4) and the appropriate back panel (backpanel-Body.stl or backpanel_2-body.stl) depending on your mainboard version.

!!!IMPORTANT!!! - as mentioned above, do NOT leave out the feet, as the feet ensures free airflow to the mainboard.

 

Assembly instructions

Carefully make a small system test of the mainboard before assembling it into the case. Mount the RAM and a NVME (or alternatively use the included USB2-cable to use an internal USB drive - a USB2 drive is fine for booting and maintaining a small linux server or media center). Use the included nylon stand-offs to left the mainboard of the table and power it up using an appropriate power supply (9VDC to 36VDC according to GigaByte). Test that everything works as expected (I use a light linux distribution like Lubuntu to do this).

  1. Start by attaching the back panel to the back of the mainboard: The HDMI port are a very narrow fit and should be able to hold the panel in place, while the mainboard is placed into the bottom.
  2. Place the mainboard into the minipc_bottom-Body part. The mainboard might need to be gently nudged past the tabs at the top of the case, but if you hold the mainboard as level as possible, it should be easy to get it into the bottom. Make sure the holes in the mainboard are placed on top of the tabs on the standoff in the case. When it is place correctly, the back panel is centered in the cutout and the mainboard stays in place, even if the case are tilted right and left.
  3. Press the DC-connector into the recess in the back left side of the case (see detail picture of the DC-connector) - it should be able to stay in place while the assembly is completed.
  4. Place the onoff button in the hole in the minipc_top-Body part - secure it with a piece of tape (as shown in the detail picture) to keep it in place for a few seconds while attaching the top part.
  5. Line up the minipc_top-Body part with the bottom and gently press down to make the tabs inter-lock Take special care of the back panel, that has to be carefully slid into the long narrow pocket in the top part.
  6. If everything went as expected and the onoff button is still in its hole, then remove the tape securing the button. Look at the back - does the back-panel look alright and is the DC-connector visible in the center of the DC hole? If not, the case is easy to take apart (non-destructive!) and put together again after fixing the problem.
  7. If you are build the minimum version, not is the time to glue on some high feet (>5mm) and then you are done!
  8. If making the full version, attach the frame_top-Body part - it a tight fit as the case bulges a little, due to the thin walls. The frame_top stabilizes the case, even out the bulge and keeps the tabs compressed.
  9. Turn over the PC, place the feet loose on the bottom (or use the tape-trick again) and gently press the frame_bottom-Body part onto the case, while making sure the feet are correctly seated in the cut-out.

 

That is it! You now have a nice and fairly solid case using a fairly small amount of filament.

 

My case was predominantly printed on an Anycubic Kobra 3v2 combo, using a single color at the time. The filament used was white and black Anycubic high-speed PLA and the blue and red was Kingroon PLA. Printing times are 1h35m and 1h50m for the minipc parts, around an hour for the frame parts, ~15m for 4 feet and less than 10 minutes for a backpanel and less than 10 minutes for a onoff button. So into total approx. 6 hours for a full version and 4 hours for a minimum build.
