Boost Me (for free)
A boost is a free way for you to show appreciation for my models - and helps me improve my 3D printing setup and experiment with more novel mechanisms to turn into useful tools.
A hanging organisational system for small bins of tools such as pens, pencils, crayons etc. I built this for my daughter's Ikea play table to store her drawing materials, but it's suitable for a wide array of uses. Bins hang from a french cleat rail, which is 20mm high on the inside and 28mm high on the outside. The standard rail is 250mm long, and a bowtie connector is provided for attaching multiple segments together into one continuous rail.
Bins in several sizes are provided in the model; there's also a customizer for generating bins to suit your own needs. The minimum depth of a standard bin is approximately 52mm due to the rail clip. Note: If you are using the configurator, you will need to set several support-related parameters yourself before printing - see below.
The clip profile for the bin is designed with a retaining lip at the bottom so that bins cannot be accidentally knocked off or caused to fall by excessive weight; bins have to be tilted backwards a little to be removed. This is easily done by a child, and the profile is designed so that bins can still be tilted and removed even if the rail is attached directly to a wall. Bins need not lean against a wall below the rail either; the rail itself is sufficient for stability.
Because the clip requires a large overhang that has to be printed independently for several mm before connecting to the main model, support settings are critical to ensure successful printing of the bins. The included profile has these already set; if you are setting it up yourself I have found the following to work reliably:
- Type: Tree (Auto)
- Style: Tree Hybrid
- Top Z Distance: 0.12mm
- Interface Pattern: Grid
- Max Bridge Length: 10mm (without this, the slicer will generate unnecessary supports for the small bridge at the top of the clip)
