Cultural Mahjong: Tracing the Roots of Oracle Bone and Bronze Inscriptions, Reshaping the Universe in a Small Square

The core design of this mahjong set is "Cultural Tracing". It deeply integrates ancient character structures, Shang and Zhou dynasty totem patterns, and classical literary imagery, recreating the millennium-spanning evolution and cultural accumulation of Chinese civilization within a small space.

Tile Descriptions

• Wan (Character) Tiles: All typefaces are from "Liushu Tong". This book was compiled by the Qing dynasty scholar Min Qiji, aiming to preserve the diverse forms of Chinese character evolution. The character forms closest to modern structures were selected, ensuring legibility for daily use while retaining the epigraphic charm of ancient characters.

  

• Suozi (Bamboo) Tiles: Restoring the original meaning of "Grain Protection Tiles", one of the origins of mahjong. "Suo" refers to stringing hunted birds with ropes, hence starting with birds. "Yi Suo" (one bamboo/sparrow) uses the oracle bone script for "bird"; "Er Suo" to "Jiu Suo" are reassembled based on the oracle bone script for "string".

  

• Tongzi (Dot) Tiles: "Yi Tong" (one dot) features the Shang and Zhou sunbird totem, representing ancient Chinese civilization's sun worship; "Er Tong" to "Jiu Tong" use the ancient coin casting pattern "Sichu Wen" (Four-Out Pattern) as the basic unit, echoing the historical origin of dot tiles from "copper coins".

  

• Zi (Wind and Dragon) Tiles: East, South, West, North, Middle, and Fortune are all simplified and stylized based on oracle bone script and seal script. The character "West" is particularly unique, retaining its original bird's nest-like structure. In the oracle bone script era, ancient people used birds returning to their nests to symbolize the sun setting in the west, and this character form evolved from that.

  

• Flower Tiles: The mahjong rules in the author's region do not use flower tiles. To ensure the completeness of the work, 8 tiles representing "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Plum, Orchid, Bamboo, Chrysanthemum" were designed accordingly.

  

• Dice: Featuring an openwork, intricate structure with embedded red beads. The design is inspired by the famous lines from Tang dynasty love poet Wen Tingyun: "Lighting a lamp deep in the well for you, walking long paths with my lord, let's not play Go.Intricate dice hold red beans, longing to the bone, do you know or not."

  

• Betting Sticks: Equipped with simple betting sticks, distinguished by color (white, red, gold), with no fixed denominations marked, allowing players to customize according to local rules.

Specifications

The size is 41*30*20mm (size 42), balancing visual presentation and grip feel. With a default 40% infill, each tile weighs approximately 13g. If a heavier feel is desired, it is recommended to increase the infill to 95%, which can bring the weight up to 18.3g.

About Color Scheme

Four-color AMS support is required. White, Red, Black (recommended PLA Basic or PLA Matte), and Gold (recommended PLA Silk).

Notes

The plate layout is relatively compact; non-H series machines will occupy almost the entire build plate space. Therefore, please thoroughly clean the build plate (especially the edges) to prevent skin oils on the build plate from causing edge warping or adhesion failure.
