Description

3D-Printed Fishing Net (Trout & Light Bass)

This is a 3D-printed fishing net frame and handle, designed specifically for trout and small to medium bass. The design has been printed and tested in PETG, providing a strong balance of rigidity, flexibility, and water resistance for freshwater fishing.

Netting is not included, allowing you to choose your preferred mesh material, size, and depth.

Design Intent

  • Optimized for trout and light bass
  • Designed around PETG material
  • Lightweight while maintaining adequate rigidity
  • Intended for DIY or replaceable net bags

Printer Requirement (Important)

  • Designed and tested on a Bambu Lab H2S
  • Requires a large build volume
  • Smaller printers are not recommended without modification

The net frame barely fits the H2S build plate and may not fit on smaller machines, even with rotation.

Recommended Printing Settings

  • Material: PETG (recommended)
  • Layer Height: 0.2–0.28 mm
  • Infill: 60% gyroid
  • Perimeters: 5–7

Important Printing Notes

The net frame body is a large, curved part and is intentionally oriented for strength rather than ease of printing.

  • The frame barely fits on the H2S build plate
  • When printing from the STL files, the model must be rotated at an unusual angle to fit. This orientation is intentional and improves layer alignment and overall strength in use

Carefully check build-plate clearance and adhesion before starting the print.

If there is enough interest, I plan to explore:

  • Variants for smaller printers
  • Alternative orientations
  • Different materials

Modular Handle Design

The handle features threads at the base intended for future extensions and interchangeable end attachments for different use cases.

Netting Installation

This frame is designed to accept:

  • Rubber net bags
  • Nylon or knotless mesh
  • Paracord or braided line (DIY netting)

Netting can be installed by threading netting around the frame.

Assembly Note:

Although a pin-and-nut option exists, testing has shown that a friction fit alone is sufficient, and no hardware is required for typical use.

Notes

  • Designed for freshwater use
  • Not intended for fish larger than 10lbs
  • Always test your print before field use
