Description

This Toothless-inspired sleeping dragon is the perfect "shelf critter" to guard your books and add a touch of Berk to your home decor. Designed to sit perfectly on the edge of a shelf or mantle, its tail drapes elegantly over the side, creating a dynamic 3D effect.

Project Overview

This model captures a peaceful moment of a Night Fury in a deep slumber. It is designed for ease of printing while maintaining high-quality textures, from the smooth leather-like skin to the detailed scales on the limbs.

Key Features

  • Shelf-Hugging Design: The weighted balance and curved tail allow it to sit securely on any flat edge without falling.
  • Detailed Textures: High-fidelity scale patterns on the legs and back provide a premium look even without painting.
  • Glow-in-the-Dark Ready: Features recessed areas on the head and back perfect for a dab of neon paint or "glow" filament swaps to mimic bioluminescence.
  • No Supports Needed (Optimized): Designed with printability in mind to minimize waste and post-processing.

Print Settings & Recommendations

To get the best finish (as seen in the photos), I recommend the following:

  • Filament: Black PLA (Silk or Matte both look great).
  • Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.2mm for a balance of speed and detail.
  • Infill: 10-15% (Standard Gyroid works best).
  • Wall Loops: 3 walls for extra strength on the tail.
  • Bed Adhesion: A brim is recommended for the tail section if your bed adhesion isn't 100%.

Assembly & Finishing

  1. Remove from Bed: Let the plate cool completely to avoid warping the thin tail section.
  2. Detailing: For the eyes and spine markings, use a small brush with lime green acrylic paint or a POSCA marker.
