🌹 A Ring/Gift Box That Blooms

A mechanical blooming rose gift box designed to turn opening a gift into a moment.

When the lid is opened, a gear-driven mechanism causes the flower to bloom automatically, revealing the ring, note, or gift inside. The core blooming system is print-in-place, while the surrounding parts are modular and customizable.

 

Designed for Valentine’s Day, proposals, and special occasions — but built to stay useful long after.

🌿 Modular & Customizable Design

The design is intentionally modular to encourage customization and reuse.

Interchangeable center attachments:

    • Includes multiple ring slot sizes to fit different ring dimensions

  • šŸ’Œ Note holder

Leaves are assembled separately, allowing:

  • Easy multi-color prints without AMS
  • Reprinting or recoloring individual parts
  • Material experimentation

šŸ’– Functional Re-Use After the Gift

After the gift is given, an optional attachment can be added to the inside of the lid to convert the box into a jewelry organizer:

  • Ring hanger
  • Earring hanger

šŸ–Øļø Printing Information (Important)

  • Designed specifically for FDM printers
  • The most critical part is the print-in-place joint mechanism
  • Use PLA in good condition (preferably dried) for best results
  • Ensure the build plate is clean for proper first-layer adhesion
  • Leaf joints should move very easily without force
  • Leaves include small, easy-to-remove supports
  • Other parts are straightforward to print and can be printed in:
    • PLA
    • PETG

šŸ”§ Assembly Notes (Please Read)

Step-by-step assembly instructions are provided as GIFs on the model page.
Key points to ensure reliable operation:

GIF 1 – Case & Gearbox Assembly

  • Pull the rack fully upward before assembling the lid
  • When assembling the lid:
    • Push down on the joint
    • Slide the filament pin into place

GIF 2 – Breaking In the Mechanism

  • Break in the print-in-place slider joint by hand first
  • Then break in the revolute leaf joints
  • The slider may require some force
  • Leaf joints should be able to rotate freely

GIF 3 – Assembling the Leaves

  • Do not use excessive force
  • Insert leaves parallel to the joint
  • Take care not to overstress or twist the joints
  • Make sure the leaves can fall on their own; if not, open and close the leaves until they fall freely

GIF 4 – Assembling Flower & Case

  • Align the flower base slot with the protruding rack
  • Press perpendicular to the base (some force may be required)
  • After it clicks:
    • Align the slots of the case and flower base
    • Press them into the base until they snap in

GIF 5 – Attaching Center & Closing the Flower

  • Close the leaves simultaneously
  • The leaves should naturally align as they close
  • While keeping the leaves closed, lower the lid
  • Continue gently closing the leaves so the inner petals are guided inward
  • This ensures proper alignment and reliable blooming
