Description

First off - I want to give a huge shout out to Matteo Papini (https://makerworld.com/en/@Mattz92) who gave approval for this box to be shared. If you like my remix of the Spool Dry Box, please view, download, and boost his work as well. This remix of the Spool Dry Box is only possible through his model.

 

Changes

I took the original Spool Dry Box and made a couple of changes/additions:

  • Different connector and holder:
    • I accidentally bought the wrong connectors, so I could not make use of the original holder for the PTFE connector (the half-spherical thing). Therefore, I created a version for a PC4-M10 connector. If you have a PC4-M6 connector, you can use the one from the original model.
    • I added a ‘stop’ for the PTFE tube: it will slide in the connector for a couple of centimeters. On the inside of the box, the filament is guided so that it neatly slides into the PTFE tube.
  • Hygrometer holder
    • I added a simple holder for a circular hygrometer. The hygrometer fits in the printed holder. The lip of the hygrometer fits in the groove of the holder. Then, the holder can be pressed in the lid of the container. 
    • I chose for this location, as I store the boxes in a drawer, so I look at them from above. If you have them on e.g. a shelf, this location might not be optimal.
    • As it is just pressed in there, it can fall out if you open the lid a lot. Sliding it upwards or downwards (towards the rounded parts) makes the fit a bit more secure.
       

  • Filament capture plug
    • Once I have dried my filament, I store it in this box. My goal is to open the box as little as possible, so I will use it mainly as a feeder for the external spool option (next to my AMS). Without this plug, you have to open the lid and feed the filament from the inside into the PTFE tube.  With it, the lid can remain closed.
    • You can press fit a small piece (4 cm) of PTFE tube in the plug. Then, the filament can be pressed into the plug as well. You can then use it to plug it into the connector when the filament is not in use. If you want to use the filament, you just remove the PTFE tube (incl plug), pull the filament out of the plug and feed it into your printer. 

    • If you really want a fancy setup, you can use a spool rewinder that uses magnets, so that you never have to open the box: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1430599-rewinder-for-dry-box-cereal-box#profileId-1937633. I have not tried this yet myself with this box.

  • no supports
