Mechanical Piston Key Hanger: B6 Engine Style
This is a mechanical key hanger for every car enthusiast. Inspired by the legendary Mazda B6 engine, I spent hours sketching linkage mechanisms on paper to bring this "moving" art piece to life.
How it works: When you hang your keys, the internal mechanism converts the weight into vertical movement, making the piston rise from the cylinder block. The entire mechanism is 100% 3D printed—no springs or extra screws are needed.
Story: I wanted to bring the excitement of the garage into the home. Before touching CAD, I repeatedly calculated the linkage on paper to find the ideal movement. It takes 11 hours to print on an A1 mini, but every second reflects a passion for car culture.
Print Settings:
- Filament: PLA/PETG (Silver for pistons recommended).
- Wall Loops: 3+ for strength.
- Support: Tree supports recommended for internal cavities.
Note: If the movement feels stiff, a small drop of lubricant works wonders!

Gimmick Explanation: When a key is hung on the hook, the internal linkage mechanism utilizes its weight to push up the piston. No external parts like springs or screws are required. All mechanisms are achieved solely through 3D printing.
Production Story: Before proceeding to CAD, I repeatedly sketched the link's trajectory on paper to bring this movement to fruition. While it takes a substantial 11 hours to print on an A1 mini, the satisfaction of seeing it completed and in motion is truly exceptional.
Recommended Settings:
- Filament: PLA or PETG (silver is recommended for pistons).

- Support: Tree supports should be used for internal cavities.
- Adjustment: If the movement feels stiff, applying a small amount of silicone spray or similar will ensure smooth operation.
