Description and context (EN)
This bust represents Immanuel Kant, one of the major philosophers of the Enlightenment and a foundational figure of modern philosophy. The work is directly inspired by the most well-known representation of the thinker, one that has spanned centuries and fixed his image in the collective imagination.
The face is treated with a resolutely sculptural approach: the volumes are sharp, the planes distinct, and the facial structure clearly readable. The expression is calm, concentrated, almost austere, reflecting the intellectual rigor and moral discipline that characterize Kantian thought. The features are neither idealized nor embellished: natural asymmetries, the subtle tension around the gaze, and the sobriety of the expression contribute to a faithful and timeless representation.
Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) is primarily known for his major works such as Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of Practical Reason, and Critique of Judgment. Through these texts, he profoundly transformed the way of thinking about knowledge, morality, and freedom, laying the groundwork for a reflection that remains central today.
This bust thus seeks to visually convey the strength of his thought: a sober, structured, and demanding presence, in the image of the man who left a lasting mark on the history of philosophy.
Immanuel Kant – Bust
Description and context (EN)
This bust depicts Immanuel Kant, one of the most influential philosophers of the Enlightenment and a foundational figure of modern philosophy. It is directly inspired by the most widely recognized portrait of Kant, the image that has defined his appearance in collective memory.
The face is approached through a purely sculptural language: strong volumes, clearly defined planes, and a solid underlying structure. The expression is calm, focused, and restrained, reflecting the intellectual rigor and moral discipline that characterize Kant’s philosophy. The features are neither idealized nor corrected; natural asymmetries and subtle facial tension are preserved to maintain a faithful and timeless likeness.
Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) is best known for his major works such as Critique of Pure Reason, Critique of Practical Reason, and Critique of Judgment. Through these writings, he profoundly reshaped Western thought on knowledge, ethics, and freedom, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to influence philosophy today.
This bust aims to visually express the essence of his thought: a sober, structured, and demanding presence, mirroring the intellectual depth and lasting impact of Kant himself.
