Description

I recently rebuilt my 10" rack and had the idea to have a physical indicator for the drive usage stats of my NAS drives, since I have a bunch of Solum ESLs that are otherwise unused currently. This was my initial answer to how to actually get that mounted on my rack. Technically this could also be considered a blanking plate, but it was originally designed to match the positioning of the drives in this 1U HDD mount by DIVIIK.

I'm using it with Solum ST-GR29000 tags, though anything else with the same physical mounts should work just as well. You may need 16mm screws if you're using this like I am, but if you're using it standalone it should work with the same screws you use for everything else.

As for the software side of things, I'm controlling these via a Home Assistant automation and the OpenEPaperLink integration from HACS. To get your drive status to be accessible from within the automation, map your drives to HA via System -> Storage, then set up the built-in System Monitor integration to get the drive stats. Go to the integration, find and enable the sensors for the drive status, and ensure that all values are listed in gibibytes (GiB). Then, in the variables setting in the automation, replace all of the entities for your two drives with the entity names for your own system, and set the device to be the tag you wish to update.
