A dragon relief can be mounted on the front of the box, forming a striking three-dimensional centerpiece. When combined with backlighting, the relief casts beautiful shadows and gives the book nook a strong sense of depth and movement, making the dragon appear almost alive within the frame.

The front panel is 3D printed using a thin layer of gold filament, allowing light to shine through beautifully. When backlit, the gold layer produces a warm, magical glow that highlights the artwork while maintaining strong contrast against the darker structural elements.

Multiple interchangeable front covers

This design supports multiple interchangeable front covers, allowing you to completely change the look of the book nook lightbox whenever you like.

You can print several different front designs and swap them out depending on your mood, the season, or which book currently holds your heart. Whether you prefer a bold dragon silhouette, a more minimal design, or a highly detailed fantasy emblem, the front panel can easily be removed and replaced.

Optional Dragon Relief – Minimal Lightbox Mode

The dragon relief on the front is completely optional.

If you prefer a cleaner and more minimal look, you can simply choose not to mount the dragon relief. Just rotate the black front cover housing so the mounting grooves face toward the back instead of the front.

This transforms the piece into a sleek, pure lightbox design with a smooth front surface and warm backlit glow. No dragon relief — just clean lines, subtle lighting, and atmospheric depth.

This flexibility allows you to switch between a bold fantasy statement piece and a modern, understated bookshelf light — all with the same model.

Lightbox Function

The model doubles as a lightbox, designed to hold LED lighting behind the front panel. The backlighting creates:

• A soft, atmospheric bookshelf accent also on the back
• Enhanced contrast for both the dragon relief and front panel design
• A cozy, fantasy-inspired display suitable for reading spaces or collectors’ shelves
• Use a Bambu LED light  or a Bambu Puck light

For a simpler and extra cozy setup, you can place one or two LED tealight candles inside the lightbox instead of the above mentioned.

The gentle flickering flame effect creates a warm, natural glow that adds movement and atmosphere to the dragon design.

Adjustable Front Depth – Control the Light & Shadow

The depth of the front cover is fully adjustable.

The white housing that holds the cover can be slid forward or backward inside the main box. This allows you to control the distance between the illuminated panel and the outer edge of the frame.

By adjusting this position, you can change the visual depth of the lightbox:

• Move it forward for a tighter, more framed appearance
• Move it backward to create stronger shadow depth and a more dramatic 3D effect

This simple adjustment lets you fine-tune how much dimension and contrast you want in your display — from subtle ambient glow to bold, layered fantasy depth. It gives you full control over the final look of your book nook.

• Print using Black, white, copper, gold or translucent filament

Dragon Relief & Frame:

• Works especially well in matte black or dark filament to maximize contrast and shadow depth

The book nook is sized to fit standard bookshelf depths and is designed to blend naturally between books. The added dragon relief on the front makes it stand out as a centerpiece while still fitting seamlessly into a modern bookshelf setup.

The model is optimized for  easy assembly - see assembly instructions. Assembly is simple and beginner-friendly. The parts are designed to slot or glue together. The dragon relief mounts directly onto the front of the box, and the interior space allows for easy installation of LED lighting and cable routing from the back.

Print Profiles & Nozzle Recommendation

The included print profiles are all optimized for a 0.4 mm nozzle, ensuring reliable results, good strength, and clean overall detail.

However, if you want to capture all the fine details — especially in the decorative front elements — using a 0.2 mm nozzle is highly recommended.

A 0.2 mm nozzle will:

• Improve sharpness in small lines and intricate textures
• Enhance edge definition in the dragon relief
• Produce smoother transitions in detailed areas

While printing with a 0.2 mm nozzle will increase print time, the extra detail can significantly elevate the final result.

Choose speed with 0.4 mm — or go for maximum detail with 0.2 mm.

Note that this model has some very fine detailes on the front covers, so it is very important that you have a clean build plate in order to maximize adhesion!
