Gridfinity Storage Box V2 [5x4]
Print Profile(21)

Bill of Materials
Description
Hello! This is the second version of a gridfinity storage box I designed about a year ago. It's called The Schubox.
I've made many updates since publishing this project so please read the update log down below. I've created a Patreon for updates and early release files for upcoming sizes and improvements. That link can be found below. All files will remain free here on MakerWorld when ready.
Big news - V2 Large is here! 7X6 grid of awesomeness for H series printers.
Quick note: Looks like we've created a bit of a dowel pin shortage. I designed a modified version to use M3X30mm bolts. Model page is here.

What makes this storage box different?
Gridfinity top, bottom, and inside
Easy one handed opening latch
Box stands freely on back edge (vertically) for storage in deep drawers
Lid stops opening at a specific angle - does not fall all the way over
- Uses durable pins for latch and hinges
- Integrated drawer slide features in the sides of boxes
- Has option for labels
Has option for handles
Boxes can stack & latch together for carrying multiple
Pivoting top handle for top carry
Pivoting front handle for front carry
Improved drawer slide system
Mounting plate that can be bolted or strapped
Surface and undermounting plates for the drawer system
- Wall mount
- Vertical storage for inside drawers

Gridfinity Specifications:
Gridfinity was started by Zack Freedman and you can learn more about the system here.
This box is 5 Units Wide, 4 Units Deep, and 6, 9, 12, and 15 Units tall. If this doesn't make sense to you… click that link above to learn about Gridfinity.
Please note that the back row on the outside of the lid is not gridfinity standard - it has geometry that is needed for locking the boxes together.
If you print 5U Bins - your stuff will go everywhere inside the case. If you print 6U bins with additional labels on top of the label shelf, they may not fit properly. My favorite bin generator is Perplexinglabs. Another option is Gridfinity Extended.
Materials required:
PETG HF Filament & 3mmx30mm dowel pins.
"Can I use PLA?" - Not for this model - Please use the model modified to use M3 Bolts for PLA (you'll still need PETG for the front handle.)
Can I used regular PETG? Yes, but some of the 35 degree angles may have issues. I recommend using the support profile.
Assembly:

Please note if you are mounting this to a wall please follow proper wall mounting practices. These stacks can be under heavy weight and force loads since they are drawers. They are made of plastic, please use reasonable caution in how you load and wall mount them. Mount to studs, toggle bolts (drywall), or a french cleat. Do not expect basic screws to hold this on drywall… it will fall off. Do not hang off these or stand on them, they will break.

Please note the beefy handle shown below is being updated to REV 03. Be cautious with previous revisions.

Pins can be installed using channel lock pliers. Make sure its aligned well as you squeeze it in:

Troubleshooting:
If the pin isn't aligned well or the hole has not printed well, it may create a small split in the plastic. PETG HF material is accounted for in the tolerances. Using PLA can result in the pins fitting loosely.
Loose filament along box drawer slides - can be a challenge. Sometimes standard or tree support is the solution here.
Warping: clean plate! dry material (ideally high flow). Use a brim if necessary.
Drawer slides too tight: A touch of grease - like the stuff you put on the lead screws, goes a long way on some materials. I added higher clearance slides for a better fit if needed. They can be swapped in to replace the other ones!
Please note that each box requires nine 3mm x 30mm steel pins. These can be found in the BambuLab store. They are about $1.50 per pack of 10.
D6X2mm magnets can be press fit into the inside grid.
I get a tiny commission if you purchase by clicking the “buy now” link in the BOM. This also goes for filament. No additional cost to you, just a fun way to support me!
If you can't find those dowel pins in stock, try this M3x30mm version.
Planned Updates:
I plan to release other sizes and more accessories. I've put a ridiculous amount of time into this project and hopefully that shows in the prints you end up with! Obviously ratings and boosts allow me to get more filament and repair my machines to develop more projects like this. If you want to buy me a coffee, here's a link. The more coffee I drink, the more efficient I am at life, the more iterations and updates these projects get. Post a comment with anything specific you'd like to see!
I did finally set up a Patreon for support, detailed development updates, and access to early test files. More info here.
Other Sizes & Parts:

Gridless version released! Less time, less filament, foam inserts

Update Log:
2/7/2026:
PLA Profile Added
BASE REV 02: Updated Base file to have a more generous angle based on feedback from users having issues on the back of the box. Also added support profile for this part specifically for users with this issue.
2/8/2026:
Increased clearance drawer slide profile being uploaded - some folks had slides fitting too tight. Added them to the STL repository as well.
2/9/2026:
Added missing drawer frame lock
2/12/2026
PLA Profile removed - causing lots of problems and needs to be tested more!
Re-Structuring of profiles (Box Only, Drawers, Mounts, Alternative Profiles)
2/14/2026
Restructured profiles complete. Apologies for the shakeup. Now theres a profile for each height and corresponding drawer frame. Additional mounts added separate. Added clearance drawer slides at the bottom of the list. This will help as the system grows to other sizes!
Included in this update: Updated lid with finger scoop. Beefy handle can now carry drawer stack (carefully). More drawer frame styles have been added. Drawer frames for all heights tested and added - only for H2 series at the moment for 9,12,15U.
Upcoming: dolly base, caster base, drawer unit, and 5X4 V2 Gridless! I plan to release a 5x4 M3 and PLA option in the near future.
2/16/2026 Caster base published, drawer unit published, gridless published, beefy handle updated, lid updated to remove small fillet
- 2/21/2026: Updated drawer frames - made clip of box handle easier by reducing offset. Cored out sides of big frames. Increased material on the side cutouts of the 6U drawer frame. Moved drawer mounts to their own profiles. Plan to release model pages for different styles of drawer frames. STL of smooth and arrayed are still in repository!
- 2/27/2026: Split drawer frames are live! Documentation on how to assemble is above. I have been getting reports that the front latch can have problems with tall heavy stacks - investigating now and may add material and change print orientation of the standard latch.
- 3/1/2026: Released M3 bolt version
- 3/6/2026: Half grid lid released as print profile on this page. 4U version released here!
- 3/18/2026 5X5X6U version released! Drawer slides & more heights to come
- 4/12/2026 Split 6U drawer frame added. 5X5 heights added. Drawer Slides added.
Q&A:
Are these compatible with the V1 boxes?
Yes and No. A V1 Box will not stack on top of a V2 box. Both a V1 box and V2 box can use the pivoting front handle and most importantly the drawer system, wall mount, and vertical storage. A V1 box will not work with the plate mount. You can put a V2 lid on a V1 base if you want a top handle.
Is this worth all the filament used?
That's entirely up to you! I find it worth it since it's gridfinity specific, I can print replacement parts, and I know they won't go out of stock or be discontinued.
Why pins and not printed hardware?
Many other boxes have printed hardware and some work, some do not. I never found them very durable over time. I use pins often in production products and they offer durability and smooth motion. They are inexpensive and easy to stock!
Can these be disassembled?
Drawer frames can be disassembled and reassembled. Boxes cannot - to salvage your pins if something breaks you need to break the hinges to get the pins out. I recommend a flathead screwdriver. I plan to work on a solution for this!
Why high flow PETG?
There are some parts on this model that require bridging or stacking at aggressive angles. I haven't seen issues with high flow material. Others have reported issues with slower moving material and machines. If needed, generate support.
Where are the bins that go in these? These are designed for any 6 Unit tall gridfinity stacking bin that follows standards. I do not have any generic bins posted on my profile at the moment but plan to upload some in the near future. I do have many others posted in my profile for bit holders and other items that may be useful for you!
Can I sell these?
Yes you can sell the physical prints if you wish as long as you subscribe to the correct commercial membership tier on my profile.
