Description

The Ultimate Cardboard Crafting "Pro Kit" Box (AMS Optional)

I have gifted DirkMcGirk's incredible Cardboard Crafting Tools to countless kids for birthdays and holidays. While the tools are amazing, handing them over in a ziploc bag or a generic container always felt like it was missing something. I wanted to create a storage solution that made the set feel like a “Professional Kit." My goal was something significant for the child to unwrap and easy for the parents to store on a shelf.

Key Features

  • "Click-Lock" Security: This parametric lid design includes a built-in "click" to stay shut. It won’t slide open accidentally in a backpack, ensuring tools don't end up at the bottom of a toy bin.
  • The "Shake Test" Approved: The internal inserts and "Shadow Board" inlays ensure that even if the box is shaken or flipped, every tool and screw stays exactly where it belongs.

  • Expanded Capacity: While the original tool kit recommends 25 screws, I’ve optimized this insert to comfortably hold 30 short and 30 long screws without interfering with the lid.
  • Shadow Board Inlays: I included "Shadow" parts for the floor of each tool slot. This makes it easy for kids to see exactly where each tool returns, just like a professional workshop. AMS not required!

Print & Economic Breakdown

  • Cost-Effective Gift: The box and insert use about 580g of filament. Combined with the tools (~220g), the total project is roughly 800g. For less than a single spool of filament, you get a high-quality, fully customized gift.
  • A1 Optimized: Plates are arranged to avoid the front flow-calibration lines on the Bambu A1. If you use a different printer, feel free to center the models or disable calibration.
  • No Supports/Brims: Designed to print clean. If you have bed adhesion concerns, a small brim on the box corners is all you’ll need.

Build Plate Guide

⚠️ IMPORTANT PRINTING NOTE: All lid plates (3 and 4) are oriented FACE-DOWN. This ensures the text and inlays are perfectly flush and take on the texture of your build plate. Because of this, you won't see the text in the default slicer view—be sure to rotate your camera perspective underneath the plate or check the "Sliced" preview to verify your customization before printing.

  1. The CCT Storage Insert & Box: The main structural components. Includes the sliding box and the internal tool/screw organizer.
  2. Shadow Board Inlays (Optional): Thin "shadow" inserts for the floor of the tool slots. Print in a high-contrast color to help kids know exactly where each tool lives.
  3. CCT Sliding Lid (Blank): A clean, solid lid for a minimalist look or non-AMS users.
  4. CCT Sliding Lid (CUSTOMIZABLE NAME): Features a live nameplate area for personalization.
    • To Change Name: Select the lid, go to the Objects tab, right-click "Text Shape", and select Edit Text.
    • To Change Color: Right-click "Text Shape" in the list, select Change Filament, and pick your AMS slot.

How to Personalize the Name on the Lid:

  1. Open the .3mf in Bambu Studio.
  2. Go to the Objects list on the left of the interface and find "Text Shape".
  3. Right-click, select Edit Text, and add the child's name!

Credits & Inspiration

  • The Tools: Designed for DirkMcGirk's Cardboard Crafting Tools. You’ll need to print those first! I cannot say enough good things about these!
  • The Box: Structural design uses TuTu's Parametric Sliding Box. I’ve customized the internal dimensions and the lid layout for this specific toolset. Awesome print!
