DIY Smarthome Ice Cube Machine
With this adapter, regular ice cube machines can easily be made smart. A small servo takes over pressing the original button on the machine, without any modifications to the electronics. Additionally, a light sensor is installed which detects when the "water empty" indicator lights up. In that case, a notification is automatically sent to your phone.
The entire system is controlled via a D1 mini with ESPHome. This allows for easy creation of automations in Home Assistant – for example, so that the ice cube machine switches on and off at set times.
The system ran continuously for an entire summer and worked perfectly
