PLA Aero / PLA LW – Print Settings for Bambu Lab (RC Plane / RC Helicopter)

These print settings are practically tested and specifically optimized for eSUN PLA LW (PLA Aero) on the Bambu Lab A1.

PLA LW is a foaming filament and reacts very sensitively to retraction, temperature, and travel moves. Incorrect settings can quickly lead to stringing, nozzle clogs, or unstable parts.

Key points:

  • Keep retraction as low as possible – excessive retraction increases the risk of nozzle clogs
  • Avoid travel moves → more consistent material flow and better surface quality
  • Print slowly and continuously for a clean, uniform foam structure
  • Nozzle temperature approx. 230 °C, bed temperature approx. 65 °C
  • Infill and wall lines are the main parameters for controlling weight and strength

Filament & moisture:

All tests were performed without drying the filament beforehand.
However, drying the filament is strongly recommended, especially in case of:

  • heavy stringing
  • unstable or rough surface quality
  • poor layer adhesion

Moisture has a significant impact on print quality when using PLA LW.

Test Part 1:

  • 0 % infill
  • 3 wall lines
    → balanced between strength and weight

Test Part 2:

  • 5 % infill
  • 1 wall line
    → ultra-light, clearly shows seam quality, surface finish, and material flow

Both test parts are designed to clearly reveal seam placement, overhang behavior, stringing, and vibration issues.

Important note:

Wall lines and infill should be adjusted depending on the part.
For PLA LW, wall thickness and number of walls are the most important tuning parameters to control weight and stability – far more important than infill alone.

Tested real-world settings with comparison parts – no theory, just reproducible results.
