Description
The Arcanist’s Thaumatrope – Old World Magic Edition
This model is a special variation of my original thaumatrope, created for the Old World Magic Design Contest. I wanted to turn a classic optical illusion into something that feels like a small magical artifact from an old alchemist’s workshop.
A thaumatrope is a classic optical toy that creates an illusion by spinning a disc with two images, making them appear as one when viewed in motion.
The thaumatrope can also be used as a LED lamp, designed to fit the IKEA KAPPLAKE light, adding a warm magical glow to the piece.
I’ve also included print profiles for the discs — three thaumatrope discs are already prepared and ready to print, while the last one is left blank so you can customize it with your own design.
Additionally, I’m including a printable A4 template that lets you print different patterns on paper and easily swap them onto the blank disc.
I’m still learning and improving my 3D design skills, so this project is part of that journey 🙂
