Description
Water Filter for a 1500L Underground Tank
To store water, I buried a 1500-liter tank in my garden.
I also wanted a filter system that would allow leaves and debris to be flushed away to the sewer. Unfortunately, the commercially available filters were far too expensive, so I decided to design and build my own.
This filter is designed to work with standard 110mm PVC piping.
Materials
For printing (ABS / PETG / ASA — I personally used ASA):
- 6x M5 heat inserts
- 6x M5x10 button head screws (A2 or A4 stainless steel)
- 2x 110mm flexible couplers
- 1x 110mm PVC pipe (255mm length)
- 1x piece of fine mesh
- Zip ties
Print Settings
- Print the water filter housing upside down (with the bottom pipe facing upwards).
- Print the lid upside down as well.
- Print the handle with support enabled.
Assembly Instructions
- Cut a 255mm length of 110mm PVC pipe.
- Drill multiple holes evenly around the pipe so water can flow through it.
- Wrap the fine mesh around the pipe and secure it tightly using zip ties.
- Install the heat inserts into the housing.
- Assemble the filter using the stainless steel screws.
- Mount the filter between the 110mm PVC inlet and outlet pipes of the tank using the flexible couplers.
P.S. make sure you have a lit on the tank. Other wise it will get dirty like mine….
