Description

This is a small yet versatile display cabinet to store and display your most precious moments. The design allows to use it as a simple photo frame, a photo frame with a hidden inside compartment, or a cabinet. You can even use it as a magnetic board by adding a thin steel sheet!

The whole model can be assembled without special tools, but an MR128zz bearing will be required if you want to have the swivel action in your cabinet. Otherwise, an alternative solid variant is also available which does not require bearings. Additionally, it is highly recommended to use 5mm (diameter) rubber feet to improve overall stability, and 5x1mm neodymium magnets for the doors.

If you want to use the cabinet as a magnetic board you will need to cut a thin sheet of steel or any other ferromagnetic material. Some canned food cans can be reused for this depending on the metal. Try it out!

Parts overview:

Print instructions:

  • Print plates #1-4. If you don't want the swivel action, you can remove objects 6 & 7 from plate #4 and print plate #5 instead.
  • Optional plates are prefixed with “(Opt).”. These are entirely dependent on which customization you want (see assembly instructions down below).
  • Plate #3 contains a mirrored version of the display door. This makes printing with silk and multi-color type filament possible without color swapping. Feel free to print plate #2 twice instead if you are printing with regular filament colors.

Assembly instructions:

  1. Snap the hinges (1) to the display doors (2). Lightly compress the hinges during install.

  2. Attach the doors (2) to the display body (3).

  3. Snap the legs (4) to the base part (5 or 6, depending on whether you are printing the solid or the swivel variant respectively). You can use a drop of glue to secure them.

  4. If you are using the swivel base variant (6) attach an MR128zz ball bearing to the top piece (7) of the base. Press it with your fingers into position making sure it has a flush fit.

  5. Attach the base (5) or, if using the swivel variant, the top part of the swivel base (7)  to the display body. Mind the orientation and snap it with your fingers. You can use a drop of glue to secure it.

  6. Prepare the contents of your display. Here's some ideas!
    • A. Simple photo: You will need to print an inner panel (8) and an inner photo border (9). Simply secure your photo to the photo border piece with tape, and sandwich them together.
    • B. Magnetic board: You will need to print 2 inner panels (8). Additionally you need a steel sheet to attach your magnets to, which you can acquire from most hardware stores. Alternatively, you can try your luck with cans of canned food and beverages. Some of them are made out of coated steel and are good enough to our purposes :) Once you have your ferromagnetic sheet ready, simply sandwich it between the two panels and you are ready to go!

    • C. Blank: You can also use this design as a cabinet for your personal keepsakes. To do so, you will have to attach a door panel to the display doors, which you can customize in the same way as the previous A. & B. options, but using a door panel (10) or a door photo border (11) respectively. Additionally, you can also use a custom glass or acrylic mirror panel cut to shape (1.5mm thick or thinner!), for which you can use the door panel model (10) as a cutting guide. Use the stoppers (12) to fix your panel of choice to the door.

    • D. Mix and match: Combine different styles for each side!
  7. If any, snap your display content assembly to the body. Lightly flex it into the recess tabs in the middle of the body. (!) If needed, you can make this tabs bigger or smaller to fit different contents. In BambuStudio, select the object view in the process tab, then locate "NEG - Content thickness" and scale its X dimension to the thickness you need.

  8. If you are using the swivel base variant (6), you now have to attach it  to the top piece (7), previously fixed to the body.

  9. Attach the base of the top part (13) to the body and snap its cover (14). Optionally, you can put a LED tea candle inside or potpourri if you fancy some scented decor!

  10. Optionally, install 5x1mm neodymium magnets to the doors and body (x20), and 5mm rubber feet to the base (x6). Snap them into their respective recessed sockets.

You're done!
