Description

🛠️ Description

This model is in my opinion the ultimate angle‑setting jig system designed for the Veritas Side‑Clamping Honing Guide. The system includes two jigs—an upper and a lower setting block—allowing accurate registration using either clamping jaw. A sliding dovetail bar runs through the jig, enabling quick selection of sharpening angles in 5‑degree increments, providing repeatable setups for common bevels.

Each jig includes countersunk mounting holes so it can be screwed down to a sharpening station or fitted with a cleat for hands‑free use. The dovetail slider has been precisely tolleranced to ensure there is no slop or excessive deflection during use.

🧩 Recommended Use

  • Sets repeatable sharpening angles for the Veritas Side‑Clamping Honing Guide
  • Sliding dovetail bar indexes angles in 5‑degree increments
  • Includes two jigs: one for upper registration and one for lower projection alignment
  • Ideal for maintaining primary and secondary bevels with accuracy
  • Countersunk holes allow mounting to a bench or cleat for easier use

🧷 Assembly Instructions

  • Print both jigs and the sliding dovetail bar
  • Ensure the dovetail channel is clean and the bar slides smoothly
  • Mount the jig to your sharpening station using the countersunk screw holes, or attach a cleat if preferred
  • Slide the dovetail bar in the desired angle stop
  • Place the honing guide against the registration face
  • Advance the blade until it contacts the angled stop, then tighten the guide

🖨️ Printing Tips

  • Material: PLA (the slider has been calibrated for PLA specifically)
  • Infill: 15% gyroid
  • Walls/Perimeters: 3 (6 on the sliders)
  • Supports: Not required
  • Orientation: Print flat for the bodys, with the dovetail slots face up, print the sliding bars with the dovetail rail facing upwards.
