Ramesses II — Bust

This bust depicts Ramesses II in a faithful sculptural interpretation, limited to the head and upper torso, resting on a discreet base. The volumes are intentionally emphasized: the broad face, forward gaze, structured jawline, and the distinctive royal headdress convey the authority and power associated with the pharaoh. The lines are clean and deeply carved to reflect the monumental aesthetic of ancient Egyptian statuary.

The model is inspired by the most iconic representation of the ruler, based on the famous colossal statues found notably at Abu Simbel and in several major temples of his reign. The goal is to reproduce the official iconography of the pharaoh as it was designed to affirm his divine nature and eternal authority.

Ramesses II, often called Ramesses the Great, ruled during the 13th century BCE of the 19th Dynasty. His exceptionally long reign was marked by major military campaigns — including the famous Battle of Kadesh — but above all by an immense architectural program. He commissioned temples, colossal statues, and monuments across Egypt to engrave his legacy in stone and reinforce his status as a living god among his people.

This bust therefore aims to capture not only a historical face, but also the timeless idealized image of a ruler meant to endure through the ages.
