Introduction
Unlock the rank of a Republic Commando with this complete, high-fidelity Phase 1 Clone Trooper armor set. Designed from the ground up for 3D printing, this kit captures the iconic, utilitarian aesthetic of the Grand Army of the Republic. Whether you are building your first kit for a convention or adding to your collection, this set provides the foundational armor pieces you need to bring your trooper outfit to life.
⚠️ CRITICAL: SIZING & ASSEMBLY GUIDE Because this is a wearable suit, getting the fit right is the most important part of your build. I have created a comprehensive, custom video tutorial specifically for this model to ensure your project is a success. This guide walks you through my entire proprietary workflow:
- Measuring your body segments accurately.
- Sizing and Scaling the files to match your specific frame.
- Cutting and Orienting the parts for your printer bed.
- Printing for maximum durability.
Do not skip this step—watch the video below before you print your first piece:
Note: This file is provided at 20% scale for reference. It is the builder’s responsibility to scale these files to their specific body dimensions using the techniques shown in the video above.
Detailed Description
This armor set features the classic Phase 1 design, known for its iconic "T-visor" helmet, distinctive chest plating, and modular utility belt. Every piece has been modeled for optimal printability, maintaining clean geometry while ensuring it remains authentic to the source material.
Included Components:
- Helmet: Full Phase 1 helmet with internal clearance.
- Torso: Detailed chest and back plating with accurate Republic styling.
- Utility Belt: Modular belt design for easy assembly and accessory attachment.
- Limb Armor: Shoulder bells, bicep, forearm, and leg armor pieces.
This model is intended for cosplay enthusiasts, prop builders, and Star Wars fans. It prints beautifully in PLA, PETG, or ABS/ASA for those looking to do heavy sanding and finishing.
Cosplay Sizing & Essential Tools
Cosplay armor is only as good as the fit. Do not guess your size; take measurements.
- 📏 Get the Perfect Fit: Use my custom-designed Cosplay Calipers to accurately measure your body segments. This will save you time, filament, and frustration.
- 🎥 Scaling & Slicing Tutorial: Unsure how to scale armor or cut it for your print bed? Watch my step-by-step guide: How to Size, Scale, Cut, and Orient Armor in Bambu Studio.
History of the Design
The Phase 1 Clone Trooper armor, based on the Mandalorian-derived design of Jango Fett, represents the birth of the Republic's military might. Historically, this armor was manufactured on Kamino and issued to all clone troopers upon their graduation. It was designed for durability and ease of production, featuring a lighter build compared to the later Phase 2 armor. In my CAD workflow, I have aimed to honor these historical "in-universe" specs while optimizing the topology for modern consumer 3D printers, ensuring that the sharp angles of the helmet and the smooth curves of the chest pieces print with minimal support scarring.
Remixing & Alternative Use Cases
This model is more than just a standard suit. It’s a foundational asset for your entire Star Wars prop library. Here are some ways to take this project further:
- Legion-Specific Conversions: While this is a "blank" Phase 1, you can easily use it to build any legion. Apply custom textures or print small raised emblems to create specialized armor for the 501st, 212th Attack Battalion, or the elite Coruscant Guard.
- Master Patterns for Casting: If you are a serious cosplayer, use these files to print a high-quality "master." Sand it, prime it, and use it to create silicone molds for resin or fiberglass casting—great for making durable, lightweight suits that withstand trooping.
- Action Figure Customization: Scale these down to 1/6th or 1/12th scale. They make perfect base pieces for customizing 12-inch figures or creating custom Black Series dioramas.
- Electronics Integration: The helmet and chest plates are designed with internal space. Remixed the internals to house Bluetooth speakers for voice amplification, cooling fans for airflow, or LED boards for status lights.
- Battle Damage & Weathering: These files are a perfect canvas for "battle-worn" customization. Use a Dremel to add score marks, burn holes, or blaster strikes to the surface before painting to create a veteran trooper look.
- Hybrid Kits: Mix these pieces with Mandalorian or Jedi-themed armor to create "What-If" characters for fan films, tabletop RPGs, or original sci-fi storytelling.
- Desk Displays: Scale the helmet down to 50% and print it as a stand-alone display bust for your office desk or game room.
Printing & Assembly Recommendations
- Material: PLA+ or PETG are recommended for beginners. ASA is recommended for those planning to vapor smooth their armor.
- Supports: The helmet and complex chest pieces will require custom supports. I recommend using "Tree (Organic)" supports in Bambu Studio for easier removal.
- Orientation: Print parts in a vertical orientation where possible to maximize detail on the surface and minimize support contact points on the outer faces.
- Assembly: To ensure your armor pieces hold up under the stress of trooping or display, I highly recommend using a plastic heat welder with metal staples. This technique provides superior structural integrity compared to standard adhesives alone, effectively "stitching" your 3D printed parts together.
