Description

I had a couple of wireless desktop chargers for my iPhone, but I was always struggling to get them to charge right. The ones I had did not take into account that most phones have a camera bulge on the back, causing my phone to just not fit right. I recently bought a new casing for my phone and then the irritation won: I had to print a new one. 

 

I looked on Maker World and although there are a lot (!) of options, I could not find one that fitted my needs. SoI bought a couple of simple magnetic wireless chargers from Amazon (link below) and integrated that into a new design. 

 

I had a couple of criteria:

  • Minimalistic design: no unnecessary shapes, accents, ridges or whatever. Just a clean look.
  • Attach to my phone using build in magnets (in phone and charger).
  • Easy print: no supports, difficult geometry, moving parts etc.
  • It has to work with my iPhone 17 and Torras case, taking the camera bulge into account.
  • The phone can be attached in Landscape and Portrait mode.

Charger

I'm not sure if these are available everywhere, but if you buy an alternative,  the important thing is that the diameter of the disk should be 56mm. The cable has a diameter of 3 mm. Then they should fit (no guarantees…).

Print settings

I only tested PLA and used the standard Bambu Studio settings (0.20 mm layer height). The holder is placed so that that it lies flat on the print bed. The V shape is printed in 2 parts which will meet at then end (a clean plate is a must for this!). If it doesn't work, you could add a brim to the bottom part for better adhesion. On my P2S it printed fine without (not the best picture…):
 

 

Assembly

The charger disk is press-fitted in the back of the holder and the cable is secured in the slot that runs down the back:

 

Finished result looks like this. Apologies for the bad picture quality, but as my iPhone (with a good camera) needed to be in the picture, I used a laptop camera…:
 

 

The phone hangs suspended in the air and can rotate freely.
