Description
This tool allows you to check the accuracy and collimation of a laser collimator.
Many inexpensive laser collimators are not perfectly aligned, which can lead to incorrect telescope collimation. This device helps verify whether the laser beam stays stable when the collimator is rotated.
The design was created for Svbony laser collimators, but it can work with most 1.25" laser collimators of similar diameter.
The tool consists of two printed parts and uses four 6701RS bearings (12×18×4 mm). The bearings create smooth rolling supports that allow the collimator to rotate freely.
Hardware required
- 4 × 6701RS bearings (12 × 18 × 4 mm)
No additional hardware required.
Assembly
- Press the four bearings into their seats.
- Join the two printed halves together.
How to use
- Place the assembled tool on a flat and stable surface.
- Aim the laser at a wall at least 5 meters away (a longer distance improves accuracy).
- Place the laser collimator on top of the bearings.
- Slowly rotate the collimator while observing the laser dot on the wall.
Result interpretation
- If the laser dot stays in one place, the collimator is properly aligned.
- If the dot draws a circle, the laser collimator itself is misaligned and needs adjustment.
Notes
This tool is intended for checking the alignment of laser collimators, not for collimating the telescope directly.
