Concept and Inspiration
The idea behind Star Stand stems from the desire to reinterpret the classic cube stand, often anonymous or purely functional. The design is inspired by a stylized 4-point star, where taut lines and curved surfaces converge to create a dynamic contrast with the geometric rigidity of the cube. It is not just a support, but an architectural frame that lifts the object, giving it momentum and importance
Physical Description
- Function: Universal stand for Rubik's type cubes (3x3 and beyond)
- Aesthetics: A modern star shape with a perfectly calibrated central recess to hold the cube in an "on point" position (on the edge)
- Dimensions: Approximately 10x10 cm, ideal for not cluttering the desk while maintaining a strong visual presence
- Recommended Look: Printed in matte white or neutral colors for a sculptural effect, or in bright colors to match the cube's tiles
Why print it? (Backstory)
Almost every enthusiast or maker has a Rubik's cube at home, often left in a drawer or haphazardly placed on a shelf. I created this project to beautify and give dignity to this iconic object. Star Stand is easy to print, requires no complex supports, and is the quickest way to add a professional touch to your gaming station or bookshelf
Printing Tips
- Material: PLA / PETG
- Supports: Not necessary (the design is optimized for standard overhangs)
- Infill: 15% (Gyroid recommended for stability)
