Bill of Materials
Description
This compact silica‑gel regeneration machine is designed for makers who want to keep their filament dry and printing quality high. Silica gel gradually loses its effectiveness as it absorbs moisture from the environment. With this device, you can regenerate your silica beads safely, efficiently, and with precise temperature control — no oven, no microwave, no risk of overheating.
The system uses a digital temperature controller to heat the silica beads to the ideal regeneration temperature. The perforated 3D‑printed drum ensures even airflow and consistent drying, while the compact housing keeps the heat where it belongs. Perfect for anyone who uses silica gel in filament dry boxes, storage containers, tool drawers, or electronics enclosures.
Why This Project Exists
3D‑printing enthusiasts rely heavily on silica gel to protect filament from humidity. But desiccant needs regular regeneration to stay effective.
This DIY project gives you:
- A low‑cost alternative to commercial regeneration devices
- Accurate temperature control for optimal drying
- Safe operation without exposed heating elements
- Modular, repair‑friendly design
- A practical solution for anyone using large amounts of silica gel
🔧 Non‑Printed Parts
- I ordered all the parts I used from Bambu Lab or AliExpress. You can find the links below under Materials for Bambustore.
- The assembly video shows the individual parts as I install them.
AliExpress (I live in Germany and can only post "de" links for AliExpress. Please check that you are selecting the correct item for your country) :
Drum Motor - 24V - 10 Rpm
AC Adapter 230 Volt / 24 Volt 10 A with 5,5mm
Note: I've noticed that these cheap AliExpress power adapters don't always deliver their full power. This one is rated at 240 watts, while the heater only uses 80 watts. With a 150-watt heater, the power adapter kept shutting down due to overload.
Heater 24 Volt 80 Watts / and 24V ventilator
Temperatur sensor 24 Volts
Power Switch with LED 12 Volt
Motor Speed Controler
DC Jack 5,5 mm
680 Ohm Resistor
Print Settings
- Material: It must be printed from ABS, otherwise it will warp.
- Layer height / Wall thickness: Print with my settings as specified in the 3mf file and everything will be fine.
- Supports: There are very few supports.
