Gridfinity Build Plate Surface Test Tray

Functional Gridfinity trays designed to act as permanent reference samples for different build plate bottom surfaces. Instead of printing disposable swatches, each test becomes a useful gridfinity parts tray while preserving the plate texture for quick visual comparison.

 

The trays are based on the Gridfinity Extended bin geometry and printed without magnets so the bottom surface remains completely uniform for accurate plate texture comparisons.

Purpose

  • Visually compare build plate surface finishes
  • Create a permanent reference you can keep on your desk
  • Turn plate test prints into functional trays

Design notes

  • Flat bottom surface for consistent plate texture capture
  • No magnets so the surface stays perfectly uniform
  • Gridfinity parts trays so the prints remain useful
  • Each tray theme loosely matches the build plate used

Included trays

  • Biqu Frostbite: 2x2 tray
  • Biqu Glacier: 2x2 tray (no floor)
  • Textured PEI: 4x4 tray
  • Smooth PEI: open tray with no dividers
  • Supertack: 2x1 tray
  • Wildcard: 3x3 tray with non-gridfinity divider layout

Extra Notes

  • Effect plates were not tested in this set, but this design would work very well for those surfaces.
  • Print multiple trays on different plates and store them together for quick side-by-side surface comparison.

  • Includes optimized Bambu PLA 0.20mm profile
  • Layer height: 0.20mm
  • Material: Dark Colored PLA / PLA+
