Albert I Leopold Clement Marie Meinrad of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha – Bust
This bust represents Albert I of Belgium, an emblematic sovereign and a major figure in Belgian history. Faithful to the king's most well-known photograph, this sculptural interpretation highlights his characteristic features: a determined gaze, a finely drawn mustache, and a dignified posture, embodying both authority and resilience.
The bust captures the king in his military uniform, recalling his central role during the First World War, where he personally took command of the Belgian army in the face of invasion. Nicknamed the "Knight King", Albert I became a symbol of courage, resistance, and national unity.
The work adopts a deliberately marked sculptural approach, with clear volumes and frank lines, reinforcing the readability of the features and the expression of character. The base, simple and balanced, highlights the presence of the figure without distracting attention from his face.
