Bill of Materials
Description
"I designed this tool specifically for the spring planting season. As someone who specializes in growing tomatoes, I needed a way to ensure every seed was set at the exact same depth for uniform germination across my 15-cell trays. This prober turns a tedious chore into a single-press success."
Stop guessing your planting depth and poking holes one by one. This professional-grade gardening tool creates 15 uniform, 13mm deep holes in a single press. Specifically designed for standard 5x3 (15-cell) nursery trays, it ensures your seeds are at the ideal depth for maximum germination.
The "Wedge-Lock" Handle
This model features a high-friction Double-Mushroom Wedge-Lock system for a rock-solid build.
- Zero Hardware: No screws or glue required.
- Permanent Bond: The handle is designed for a tight press-fit. Once seated, it provides a zero-wobble grip that won't pull out during heavy use in damp soil.
- Ergonomic Design: The 14mm rounded grip is sized for comfort and maximum leverage during large planting sessions.
Recommended Print Settings
Optimized for: Bambu Lab P1 / X1 / A1 Series (Single Plate) Use "Objects" mode in your slicer to apply these specific settings to each part.
GLOBAL SETTINGS:
- Material: PLA (Recommended)
- Infill Density: 15% (For both parts)
- Supports: Tree (For handle grip only)
- Brim: Not Required
OBJECT 1: THE SPIKED BOARD
- Infill Pattern: Archimedean Chords
- Wall Loops: 2
- Note: Archimedean Chords provide superior compressive strength for repeated soil probing.
OBJECT 2: THE WEDGE-LOCK HANDLE
- Wall Loops: 3 (CRITICAL)
- Infill Pattern: Grid
- Note: The extra walls ensure the "Double Mushroom" pegs are tough enough for the high-friction press-fit.
Assembly Instructions
- Clear the Holes: Ensure the two 9mm mounting holes on the board are clear of any minor printing debris or "whiskers."
- Setup: Place the spiked board on a flat, solid surface (like a workbench, sturdy table, or the floor).
- The Press-Fit: Align the handle pegs with the holes.
- Lock it in: Apply firm downward pressure (a firm "palm strike" or a light tap with a rubber mallet) until the handle wedges into place.
Note: This is a high-friction mechanical fit designed to be permanent. Once the "Double Mushroom" heads clear the board, the handle is locked solid for the life of the tool.
Tomato Specialist Tip:
For best results, use this prober on damp seed-starting mix. The 13mm depth is specifically chosen to help tomato seedlings "shed" their seed coats as they emerge, preventing "helmet head" and ensuring a healthy start.
