Project Description
Transform a simple plastic bin into a high-yield vertical garden! 🍓♻️
This project is the ultimate solution for urban gardening and upcycling. I designed these modular 3D printable brackets to perfectly fit common plastic bins, creating a space-saving tower for strawberries, herbs, or small flowers.
By printing these components in ASA (recommended choice) or PETG, you will get a durable and UV-resistant system that will last for many outdoor seasons.
What the kit includes:
- Main Plant Holder Bracket: Optimized shape to retain soil and prevent water spillage.
- Drainage Filter: Keeps soil inside while allowing excess water to drain.
- Inspection Cap: To easily monitor the internal conditions of the bin.
Creative Ideas and Variations 💡
Don't stop at strawberries! Here's how you can push this project further:
- Herb Tower: Use the brackets for Basil, Mint, Parsley, and Thyme. Perfect for a "Chef's Corner" on the balcony.
- Hydroponic Module: Fill the bin with nutrient water and use expanded clay (leca) in the brackets for a DIY hydroponic system.
- Flower Pillar: Mix different flower species (like Petunias or Lobelia) to create a splendid flowering column in the garden.
- Night LED Tower: Insert an LED strip inside the bin (if translucent) or around the edge for a spectacular nighttime effect.
Installation Tips
- Hole Size: Use a hole saw of 50mm or 60mm (depending on the chosen print scale).
- Arrangement: Drill the holes in a "chessboard" pattern to give each plant maximum sunlight and root space.
- Sealing: For a permanent seal, you can apply a bead of universal outdoor silicone around the edge of the bracket before inserting it.
