Description

This is a versatile 3D-printable template designed for DIY shelf projects. It serves as both a tracing guide for marking wood and a router template for cleaning up edges with a flush-trim bit. The design features a clean, curved aesthetic that fits modern, rustic, or industrial shelving.

Specifications:

  • Metric: 145mm (L) x 96mm (H)
  • Imperial: ~5.71in (L) x ~3.78in (H)
  • Thickness: Scalable, but recommended at 5mm–10mm for use as a router guide.

Usage Instructions:

  1. Trace: Position the guide on your wood stock and trace the profile.
  2. Rough Cut: Use a jigsaw or bandsaw to cut within 1/8" (3mm) of your line.
  3. Template Route: Secure the 3D-printed guide to your workpiece using double-sided tape. Use a flush-trim router bit (bearing guided) to achieve a perfect, repeatable finish.
  4. Scale: This model can be easily scaled in your slicer to accommodate larger or smaller shelving needs.

Recommendation: If it were me, I’d choose to print this in PETG or ASA rather than standard PLA. While PLA is fine for a one-time trace, the heat generated by a router bearing can occasionally soften the edges of PLA if you move slowly, potentially leading to "divots" in your final wooden piece. PETG offers a bit more thermal resistance for workshop use
