The Balloon Dog is one of Jeff Koons' most recognizable works, created in the 90s as part of his Celebration series. The original piece is made of polished stainless steel with a mirror finish and represents a dog made of balloons, evoking childlike aesthetics but with high-precision industrial execution
These sculptures reach values of tens of millions of euros (an orange version sold for ~58.4 million USD in 2013). Their success is based on the contrast between
- trivial appearance (balloon)
- extremely complex and precise manufacturing
- monumental scale
The 3D printed keychain is a functional and accessible reinterpretation of that work
