Description

Problem:

Standard contact sensors don’t work reliably on up-and-over (tilt) garage doors.

The movement is not linear, so the magnet alignment breaks too early or too late.

Solution:

This simple hinged mount transforms the motion into a controlled tilt, allowing the sensor to correctly detect the door status.

How it works:

  • The hinge keeps the sensor aligned when the door is closed
  • As the door opens, the mount tilts and separates the contact
  • In the fully open position (see photo 3), the sensor reliably detects the “open” state

Why this design:

  • No electronics required
  • Works with standard contact sensors
  • Designed for real-world installation on up-and-over garage doors
  • Compact and easy to print

Installation:

  • Mount the base to the garage structure
  • Attach your sensor to the moving part
  • Align the magnet accordingly
  • Fine-tune position based on your door geometry
