Optimize your Heat Insert Game with this Heat Insert Hole Size Tester

Often times, I don't know exactly which hole size is appropriate for the various sizes and brands of heat inserts I have around. Also, your printer might not be perfectly tuned and a hole might be slightly over- or undersized. That is why I developed this simple Heat Insert Hole Size Tester.

The tester features holes from 3.0 until 6.8mm, which cover M2 up to M5 Heat Inserts. Simply take your heat insert and try the smooth size of it in the holes in ascending order until you find the first one where the insert fits. This should be your hole size in CAD or slicer when you print for the heat insert.

For easy storage, the Tester is completely Gridfinity compatible, covering a 2x1 grid.nd a height of 3U (21mm + 4.4mm stackable lip).

Versions and Print Profiles

Two-color version (left), and Mono-color version (right)

The Heat Insert Hole Size Tester is available in two different versions, with three sub-versions each:

  1. Two-color version (AMS required)

1.1 Two-color version (AMS required) without magnet holes in base

1.2 Two-color version (AMS required) with 6x2mm magnet holes in base

1.3 Two-color version (AMS required) with 6x3mm magnet holes in base

  2. Mono-color version (No AMS required)

2.1 Mono-color version (No AMS required) without magnet holes in base

2.2 Mono-color version (No AMS required) with 6x2mm magnet holes in base

2.3 Mono-color version (No AMS required) with 6x3mm magnet holes in base

In each of the print profiles, you will find a version with a stacking lip (total height 2U + 4.4mm = 18.4mm) or without the lip (height: 2U = 14mm).
