Whispering Drop transforms even the slightest air movements into calm, flowing rotation. Inspired by the elegant shape of a water droplet, this small series of kinetic objects combines organic aesthetics with fascinating light and shadow effects

Thanks to their helical structure, the wind spinners respond to light drafts from an open window, a gentle breeze on the balcony, or even rising warm air indoors – strong wind is not necessary. Depending on the viewing angle and variant, new optical impressions constantly emerge: sometimes calm and harmonious, sometimes dynamic and hypnotic

Whether as a subtle eye-catcher at the window, a decorative element in the living room, or a kinetic object on the balcony and terrace – Whispering Drop makes the invisible movement of air visible

The Story Behind the Whispering Drop

The Variants

Whispering Drop – Hollow (Ø 60 mm) The particularly lightweight, open variant reacts sensitively to even the slightest air movements and is ideal for indoor use or protected areas. Its delicate structure emphasizes the lightness of the design
Whispering Drop – Core (Ø 60 mm) The integrated sphere forms a calm visual focal point and, due to its additional mass, ensures stable rotational behavior. The perfect balance between movement and harmony
Whispering Drop – Bloom (Ø 60 mm) The overlapping structures resemble an opening blossom and give this variant a particularly organic appeal. During rotation, gentle, flowing light and shadow effects are created
Whispering Drop – Double Helix (Ø 60 mm) The most dynamic variant in the series. The complex double helix structure creates fascinating optical effects and continuously changes its appearance during rotation
Whispering Drop – Folia (Ø 60 mm) A variant of the Whispering Drop inspired by stylized leaves with harmoniously curved lamellae Optionally, you can enable Fuzzy Skin in the print settings. You can find an example of the effect of Fuzzy Skin in the images included with the print profile.
Whispering Drop – Archimedean (Ø 60 mm) Archimedean is a variant of the Whispering Drop, inspired by the Archimedean spiral. The continuously growing spiral geometry gives the wind spinner a flowing, dynamic shape that creates a new silhouette from every angle
Whispering Drop – Grande Hollow (Ø 120 mm) The larger version of the Hollow variant has a stronger presence and is particularly impressive on the balcony or in the garden. Despite its size, the characteristic lightness and elegance of the original design are retained
Recommendation for Suspension For optimal suspension, we recommend using a swivel. It allows for free rotational movement, reduces twisting of the suspension, and minimizes potential friction. (Swivel, Barrel swivel, Snap swivel, fishing swivel)

The Idea Behind Whispering Drop

Whispering Drop originally emerged as part of a Wind Spinner Design Contest. For me, this was the perfect opportunity to try out various construction methods in my CAD software and to explore new ways of creating organic and helical shapes

What began as a creative challenge quickly developed into a small series of kinetic objects exploring different aspects of movement, light, and form

Wind spinners are often considered purely decorative objects. However, I see them differently: They make air currents visible, create a calm atmosphere, and connect technology with aesthetics in a very direct way. A wind spinner is not just decoration – it reacts to its environment and brings movement into the room

The various Whispering Drop variants reflect this joy of experimentation and interpret the form of a water droplet in different ways

Print Profiles & Notes

All print profiles have been specially optimized for reliable printability and appealing surface quality

Available print profiles:

• 0.16 - 0.20 mm layer height, 2 - 3 walls, 15 - 25 % infill

Optimizations include:

• Mostly support-free printing (Easy Print)
• Adjusted print speeds for improved details
• Optimized diagonal seam transitions
• Improvements in critical geometry areas
• Adjusted wall thicknesses and infills depending on the model
• Reduced print times without loss of visual impact

Should printing problems occur, cooling, temperature, print speed, or stringing due to water absorption can have an influence. The current models and print profiles have already been optimized multiple times based on community feedback
