Description
Meet Floaty Puff - a fun levitating pufferfish with a glowing LED inside!
This project combines 3D printing with a magnetic levitation kit to create a unique floating lamp that’s both playful and eye-catching.
Before you start printing or assembling, please watch the full tutorial video and carefully review all files and required components.
⚠️ Before You Start
This build requires a magnetic levitation kit (links below).
The kit includes two main elements:
- the base module that creates the electromagnetic field
- the floating module that will levitate inside the fish
You will need to disassemble parts of the original kit and install them into the printed components. (check YouTube Tutorial)
🔧 You Will Need
- Magnetic levitation kit
- All printed Floaty Puff parts
- Four M3 screws (16 mm / ~0.63 inch)
- Allen key (hex key)
- Glue (optional, for the feet)
- Magnets for the fish body (4 pcs, 5 mm × 3 mm - approx. 0.2 × 0.12 inch)
- Light-colored or translucent filament (for best lighting effect)
🖨️ Printing Notes
Some parts require print pauses - make sure they are included in your slicer before printing.
During printing, you will need to insert:
- magnets inside the fish body
- four nuts embedded into the base parts

⚠️ Make sure the magnets are oriented correctly so they attract, not repel.
🛠️ Assembly Overview
- Remove the outer casing from the levitation base.
- Take out the smaller floating module carefully - the wires are delicate.
- Replace the original ring with the printed one and center the wire ring.
- Install the main module into the printed base.
- Route the wires underneath the module neatly.
- Insert the circuit board and switch into their slots.
- Reinstall the power connector and tighten it securely.
- Close the base and fasten it using four M3 screws and an Allen key.
- Attach the feet to the bottom (use glue if needed).
- Place the floating module inside the fish and close it with the cap.
- Plug everything in and carefully find the levitation point.
⚠️ Safety Warning
The coral-shaped openings help with airflow and heat dissipation - cool air enters from the bottom and exits through the top.
This is not a toy. Do not leave the device unattended or within reach of children.
The device generates an electromagnetic field, so make sure to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your levitation kit.
Always monitor the device while it is powered on.
I am not responsible for any damage, injury, or issues caused by improper use, faulty equipment, or incorrect assembly.
💡 Final Tip
Finding the perfect levitation point takes a bit of patience at first, but it quickly becomes much easier with practice.
