D4x2 mm Round Magnet (20PCS) - CA001

Description

Parametric box with magnetic lid

All of the parameters can be configured:

  • inside length (x-axis, minimum: 50mm)
  • inside width (y-axis, minimum: 50mm)
  • inside height (z-axis, minimum 10mm) (For all dimensions input inside dimensions; for outside dimensions just add “thickness” × 2 + 0,1 (clearance), or 6.1mm (at 3mm thickness).)
  • inside corner radius (external is always 3mm)
  • thickness (default 3mm; minimum 3mm)
  • magnet diameter (4–6mm)
  • magnet height (2–4mm)
  • magnet diameter clearance (by default it is set to 0.20mm for press fit; I found out that 0.20mm is sometimes too lose when printing on X2D – I suggest to use 0.20mm for A1 series or 0.15mm for other more professional series, or use drop of super glue for those slots that are too lose)

Be mindful how you insert the magnets as they have to be aligned (north/south) so the box closes! Suggested step-by-step instructions:

  1. Insert magnets in the lid. With 0.2mm clearance for D4x2 magnets you can just press fit them (no glue required). Keep the orientation the same for all of them (have a stack of magnets in hand, and insert them one by one, removing one from the stack).
  2. When all magnets are already inserted in the lid, put one more magnet on top (let them stick) on each corner.
  3. While you have four additional magnets (on on each corner) attached, try to close the lid on the box. Push one by one corner, trying to fit the magnet in. When magnet is successfully pushed in the slot of the box, you can move to next corner, and so on.
  4. At the end, correctly sit all of the magnets with some kind of tool.

This is the second version of the “parametric box with magnetic lid” series. I have made two other type of boxes:

With “square compartment” (less space, but with “square compartment”; note, inner radius can be customized): https://makerworld.com/en/models/2720091-parametric-box-with-magnetic-lid-x2d-tool-box

With “corner overhangs” (more space, even at the bottom on the compartment, however some objects might jam inside): https://makerworld.com/en/models/2722411-parametric-box-with-magnet-lid-corner-overhangs
