Boost Me (for free)
Support my work; Developing and testing this frame took a lot of time and effort. If you appreciate the design and the work behind it, please consider giving it a boost. Thank you for your support!
Project Description
I have created this robust 3-inch frame specifically engineered for 3D printing and maximum serviceability while still beeing below 250g. Utilizing a Deadcat geometry, this design ensures an unobstructed field of view with no propellers in the camera feed. The focus of this project was the intelligent integration of hardware to make both the initial build and field repairs as seamless as possible.
Updates
I will update the files regularly if user requests come in and will publish them in the folder “other versions”. You have to then download the file and replace it with the existing file in the print profile.
Key Features
- No-Solder Frame Swap: The structural design allows for a complete frame replacement in the event of a terminal crash without the need to desolder any electronic components. This saves time and prevents unnecessary heat stress on your hardware.
- Optimized for Walksnail Digital HD: This frame is primarily designed to house the Walksnail Avatar Nano Kit V3. Depending on community demand, adapted versions for other VTX systems may be released.
- Integrated Hardware Mounts: Custom-fit bays for the RadioMaster RP1 ELRS receiver and a dedicated fixation point for the capacitor are built directly into the frame's geometry.
- Frame Variants:
- Flywoo cable Edition: Features an integrated mount for a Flywoo XT30 connector, shown in the last image.
- Universal Edition: Features a standard cutout for traditional XT30 pigtail routing.
Technical Specifications
- Propeller Size: 3-inch
- Geometry: Deadcat (Prop-free view)
- vtx Mount: 20x20 mm M3 (grub screws for the walksnail nano)
- Stack Mount: 20x20 mm
- Motor Mount: Compatible with 1404 motors
- Weight: approx. 45g - 55g (depending on material)
Hardware Requirements
The following screws are required for assembly:
- 4x M3 Grub Screws (10mm length)
- 6x M2 Screws (8mm length)
- 10x M2 Screws (6mm length)
Reference Setup
This setup was used during development for stress testing and flight performance:
- FC/ESC: SpeedyBee F405 Mini Stack (20x20)
- Motors: Flywoo 1404
- VTX: Walksnail Avatar Nano Kit V3
- Receiver: RadioMaster RP1 ELRS
- Propellers: Gemfan 3016
- Connector: Flywoo Fixed XT30
- Battery: 6S (Tattu 550mAh)
Power System Note: The prototype was built and tested using a 6S setup
. Due to the extreme power-to-weight ratio, the motor output was limited to 70% via software (Betaflight). For a better balance of weight, efficiency, and flight time, a 4S system is highly recommended for this frame.
Printing Recommendations
To ensure structural integrity, the use of technical filaments is mandatory.
- Material: PETG-CF or PA-CF (Carbon Fiber reinforced)
- Infill: 100% (Solid)
- Wall Loops: Minimum 4
- Supports: Tree supports are recommended for the internal hardware mounts.
