Description
🦜 3D Printed Parrot Horizontal Bar Cage Feeder | Compatible with Dual-Size Stainless Steel Bowls | Anti-Scattering + Anti-Hull Re-entry | Solid Wood Perch |
📌 Design Philosophy
The choice of parrot feeders seems simple, but it actually tests the patience of bird owners Common open-hanging feeders on the market not only make it easy for birds to scatter husks and seeds everywhere, but often come with plastic bowls included with the cage For medium to large parrots who love to chew, plastic is notoriously "fragile"—after being bitten into pieces, parrots may accidentally ingest plastic fragments, leading to digestive problems or even serious internal injuries Furthermore, chemical additives in inferior plastics can cause long-term toxicity to parrots' livers Not to mention those loose, wobbly hanging buckle designs; a bird digging for food can tip the feeder over at any moment
It is precisely after repeated consideration of these daily pain points that I designed this 3D printed feeder specifically customized for horizontal bar bird cages It features anti-scattering, an all-stainless steel feeding area, and is easy to disassemble, making maintenance very hassle-free
🔧 Key Design Highlights (Addressing Pain Points One By One)
1. Stainless Steel Food Bowl + 2mm Anti-Drop Rim (Key Upgrade)
A 2mm raised circular rim is designed around the recess for the stainless steel bowl
- When you remove the bowl for daily cleaning, any husks or debris remaining in the main body will not slide back into the bowl
- When the bird digs for food, husks stopped by the barrier are less likely to fall back into the food area, and certainly won't fall onto the floor
- Truly achieves the separation effect of "husks outside, food inside"
2. Three-Sided Anti-Scattering Enclosure
The front of the feeder has an appropriately sized opening, while the other three sides have raised barriers, effectively reducing waste caused by parrots shaking their heads or digging with their claws Actual tests show approximately 40% less food waste compared to open feeders
3. No Plastic Perch—Natural Branch + Dual Screw Locking
- The perch is not 3D printed; instead, you cut your own natural branches (such as apple branches, willow branches, and other non-toxic wood species)
- Screw holes are reserved on both sides of the feeder, with one screw on each side to secure the branch, completely eliminating the possibility of parrots chewing on plastic
- Bark provides anti-slip properties, inhibits bacteria, and helps trim claws, making parrots prefer to perch
4. Simple and Reliable Horizontal Bar Hanging Installation
Installation method: hangs directly on the cage's horizontal bars, no extra hook parts need to be printed
- The back of the feeder has a slot designed to match the diameter of the horizontal bar, which can be secured with a gentle snap
- No superfluous parts, a more concise structure, and no need to worry about small parts being chewed off
- When you want to remove it for cleaning, a gentle lift with one hand will detach it
5. Fully Modular and Easy to Clean
- The stainless steel bowl can be removed separately and rinsed with hot water daily
- The main body can be scrubbed once a week with pet-specific cleaner, leaving no dead corners
- If the perch becomes old or chewed up, replace it with a new branch at any time, at virtually no cost
⚠️ Precautions for Use
- Branch treatment: For natural branches, whether picked up or purchased, be sure to dry/sun-dry/bake at 100℃ for 30 minutes to kill insect eggs and mold before use
- Regular disinfection: Clean the stainless steel bowl daily; wipe the main body weekly with diluted white vinegar or bird-specific disinfectants like F10
- First use observation: Confirm that the parrot cannot chew on the printed part's edges through gaps (although the material is safe, long-term heavy chewing is still not recommended)
- Horizontal bar compatibility: This design is for standard horizontal bar cages (wire diameter approx 2-3mm) If your cage wires are particularly thick or thin, please leave a comment, and I will provide modification suggestions
🧰 Print Configuration Reference
Two external parts you need to prepare:
✅ Food bowl: Search Taobao for keywords "stainless steel dipping dish" or "stainless steel seasoning dish"; products with an outer diameter of 8cm are generally compatible

小熊蘸料杯https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?abbucket=2&id=1039511932972
✅ Perch: Natural branch free of pesticides and mold (approx 1.5cm in diameter, choose flexibly according to your bird's foot size)
Filament recommendation: PETG or ASA, PLA is not recommended
Print infill: 30%, to ensure the main body is sturdy
Supports needed: Yes, minor supports are needed (support contact surfaces have been specifically optimized)
✍️ Final Thoughts
These two feeders are not just for aesthetics, but to solve the three major problems in real bird keeping: "daily sweeping, painful cleaning, and toxic plastic"
From material selection (stainless steel + solid wood + PETG) to structural details (2mm rim, three-sided enclosure, direct horizontal bar hanging), every aspect has been verified through actual use
If you encounter any problems with installation or printing, please leave feedback, and I will continue to update the model
🐦 Wishing your parrot happy eating and you easy bird keeping
⭐ Give your bird cage a non-toxic, clean, and efficient feeding area, starting with this feeder
