Exu, among Amerindian-African matrix religions, is a legion of spirits, who can be at various levels of enlightenment, assisting spiritual works, incorporating or not into mediums, while working in the religions that worship them
They are also present in religions such as Jurema, Omolocô, Candomblé de Caboclo, Popular Umbanda, and Esoteric Umbanda, among other Afro-Amerindian religious manifestations, as well as in "mixed" terreiros of Umbanda or Quimbanda and Candomblé. They are not present in pure Candomblé terreiros, such as Jeje, Ketu, Angola, Ijexá, and Nagô, where only Legba (Jeje and Jeje-Nagô), Exu (Ketu, Nagô, Jeje-Nagô), with whom Exus should not be confused, and Pambunjila, with whom Pombagira should not be confused, are worshipped
