Description
This project describes a self-sufficient outdoor repeater for MeshCore or Meshtastic in the 868 MHz band. The focus was on a robust, low-maintenance, and fully solar-powered system that can be transported fully assembled and operated directly in the field.
Due to its massive construction, the setup is particularly suitable for permanent installations in exposed locations.
Construction
The base consists of a 40 × 40 × 4 cm exposed aggregate concrete slab, on which a 1 m high mast with a 38 mm diameter is mounted. Its high dead weight ensures good stability and significantly reduces the risk of tipping in windy conditions.
The 20 W solar panel (33.5 × 20.4 cm) was deliberately mounted at the lower part of the mast to minimize wind load.
At the top of the mast is a weatherproof surface-mounted box with a transparent cover, housing all the electronics.
Design
All mounts for the solar panel and tech box were specifically designed for this project and printed from PETG. They are attached directly to the mast with UV-resistant cable ties. The design is engineered for easy assembly, high stability, and long-term outdoor use.
