This project arose from the need to install a stationary MeshCore/Meshtastic repeater as simply as possible and without interfering with the existing roof structure on a house roof Instead of drilling, gluing, or special mounting systems, the device is pushed directly into the existing gaps of a PV system and held securely there

The mount is designed to fit snugly into the typical gaps between solar modules This creates a quick, reversible, and almost tool-free mounting option that modifies neither the roof surface nor the solar modules themselves

The repeater is based on a Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840 in combination with a Wio-SX1262 LoRa kit and is designed for purely stationary operation A large external fiberglass antenna is connected via an N-socket and ensures stable range at the roof location

Power is supplied externally via a weatherproof USB cable, which is routed into the building interior and allows for continuous operation as well as maintenance or firmware updates

Technical Basis

  • Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840
  • Wio-SX1262 LoRa module
  • Support for:
    • MeshCore
    • Meshtastic
  • N-socket for external 868 MHz fiberglass antenna
  • No battery and no solar cell (purely stationary operation)
  • Weatherproof USB cable for power supply and maintenance

Housing & Mechanics

  • Material: PETG (3D print)
  • Weight: approx 450 g
  • Compact, low wind load design
  • Discreet design for roof integration
  • Slide-in mounting between solar panels without tools
  • Installation length: up to approx 135 mm
  • Suitable for module spacing:
    • 45 × 17 mm gap
    • Roof pitch: 38°

Concept & Assembly

The mount is pushed directly into the existing joint between two solar modules and fixed there This means no permanent modification to the roof is required The focus is on:

  • minimal wind attack surface
  • quick, reversible mounting
  • discreet integration into existing PV systems
  • stable positioning without additional mounts

Due to the low height and slim profile, the construction remains optically discreet and functionally reduced to the essentials
