Details:

This is a fully functional, wind-up mechanical Ferris wheel powered entirely by two printed planar spiral springs and a robust ratchet system. Turn the winding crank to tension the spring, release it, and watch the wheel rotate on its own. The model is designed to demonstrate mechanical engineering principles like energy storage and a ratchet system for one-directional spin. No metal screws, bearings, or external hardware are required; everything is 3D printed.

 

IMPORTANT: Print Spring and Ratchet with PETG for best performance and durability.

Features:

  • 100% 3D Printed: Zero hardware required. No screws, bearings, or metal springs needed.
  • Functional Spiral Spring: Uses an optimized, heavy-duty printed spiral spring designed to store tension and release power consistently.
  • Ratchet System: A satisfying click-lock mechanism to propel the wheel to spin one way, while allowing the wheel to keep spinning after spring propulsion.
  • Original Design: Inspired by many other wind-up toys, this Ferris Wheel uses the same idea, and turns stored energy into rotational energy to spin the wheel.
