3D Printed Moon Langrenus Crater
Print Profile(1)

Description
Langrenus is a large, well-preserved impact crater on the eastern limb of the Moon's near side, located on the eastern shore of Mare Fecunditatis, with coordinates approximately 8.86°S, 61.04°E, a diameter of about 132 kilometers, formed during the Eratosthenian period (approximately 3.2 billion years ago), named after the Flemish astronomer Michael Florent van Langren (1598-1675), and officially approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935.
1. Overall Appearance
- Due to its proximity to the Moon's eastern limb, it appears elliptical when viewed from Earth (it is actually circular, affected by perspective)
- It is the largest young impact crater within Mare Fecunditatis, sharing many similarities with Copernicus Crater
- Its western part is surrounded by the dark basalt of Mare Fecunditatis, while its eastern part borders the lunar highlands
2. Rim Structure
- The inner wall is broad and irregularly terraced, with an average width of about 20 kilometers and a maximum width of 31 kilometers
- The western wall is the highest, nearly 3 kilometers above the floor, and has a distinct pointed extension on its southern rim
- The outer wall is irregularly hilly, with a bright ray system extending across the surface of Mare Fecunditatis to its west
3. Crater Floor and Central Peaks
- The crater floor is covered by impact melt rock, with a higher albedo than the surrounding area, appearing exceptionally bright when illuminated by direct sunlight
- The northwestern part is slightly undulating and covered with rocks of various sizes
- The central peak cluster is about 1 kilometer above the crater floor, exhibiting a branched uplift structure, formed by the rebound force of the impact pushing up deep crustal material
