Description
Dayton Audio PSA95-8 Compact Desktop Speaker (Prototype V1)
This project is the first development stage of a compact 3D-printed desktop loudspeaker designed around the Dayton Audio PSA95-8 (3.5") full-range driver. The goal was to create a visually clean enclosure with optimized acoustic performance while keeping the construction simple and accessible for makers.
The enclosure was designed, prototyped, measured, and refined using REW (Room EQ Wizard) to achieve a balanced frequency response and reduce unwanted resonances. This version serves as the foundation for future iterations and acoustic improvements.
Features
- Designed for the Dayton Audio PSA95-8 3.5" full-range driver
- Dedicated left and right speaker enclosure
- Compact desktop form factor
- Stereo speaker system
- Bass reflex enclosure
- 3D-printable construction
- Rear opening for a standard speaker binding post terminal
- Acoustically optimized using REW measurements
- Easy to assemble with minimal additional components
Assembly Notes
The model includes a mirrored left and right version. Make sure to print one enclosure of each type to create a stereo pair. The rear opening is intended for a standard binding post terminal, allowing a clean and reliable speaker connection. For the best acoustic results, lightly fill the enclosure with acoustic wool. Additional damping with Alubutyl can further reduce enclosure vibrations and improve overall sound quality.
Required Components
- 1 × Dayton Audio PSA95-8 (3.5" Full-Range Driver)
- Speaker cable
- Speaker binding post / terminal
- Acoustic damping material:
- Acoustic wool (recommended)
- or Alubutyl for additional enclosure damping
Assembly Notes
The rear opening is intended for a standard binding post terminal, allowing a clean and reliable speaker connection. For the best acoustic results, lightly fill the enclosure with acoustic wool. Additional damping with Alubutyl can further reduce enclosure vibrations and improve overall sound quality.
Development Status
⚠️ Prototype V1
This is the first public version of the project. While the speaker already performs surprisingly well for its size, further optimization of the enclosure geometry, damping, and tuning is planned for future releases.
Feedback, measurements, and remix ideas are highly appreciated and will help shape the next iteration.
