HomeRacker-Compatible Advanced Indexed Rod Generator

An advanced parametric indexed rod generator for HomeRacker-compatible builds.

This generator is designed for both single-color printing and multi-color indexing. It can be used as a simple mono-color functional rod, or configured with contrasting index numbers, slabs, ticks, and labels for easier visual reference.

In addition to standard solid and hole connector faces, this generator adds unique Tooth and Divot connector options designed to work with HomeRacker-style connectors.

The Tooth option is designed to help grab HomeRacker-style connectors before inserting a pin. The Divot option provides an alternate receiving feature for connector alignment without making the face fully open like a hole.

Why I Made This

I started working on this advanced indexed rod because I kept needing a quick way to measure how many HomeRacker units a space, span, or build section actually was while still wanting a rod that would work.

A plain rod works fine as a structural part, but it is not always easy to count units once a build starts getting larger. For basic measuring, I like using the top-only numbering option with an index mark every 5 units. That gives enough information to quickly estimate or confirm a length without turning the rod into a busy ruler.

The goal is not for the numbers and index marks to stand out all the time. Up close, they give you a useful reference. From farther away, or when the indexed face is turned toward the back, they mostly disappear visually so the rod can still blend into the build like a normal structural piece.

Of course, I also went down the ruler rabbit hole while building this, so the same generator can be configured to make a more obvious ruler-style rod too. You can keep the markings subtle for normal builds, or turn on more frequent numbers, additional faces, slabs, and ticks when you want the rod to act more like a dedicated measuring or layout tool.

If you frequently need to measure in HomeRacker units, I recommend making at least one longer multi-color measuring rod. It is much easier to read quickly, and it gives you a handy reference piece without needing to count individual units every time.

What This Makes

This file creates straight HomeRacker-compatible rods with independently selectable connector patterns for:

• End units
• Middle units

Connector face types include:

• Hole
• Divot
• Tooth
• Solid

The end units and middle units can use different connector patterns, making it possible to create rods with specialized ends, different body behavior, and more visible measuring/indexing options.

Advanced Indexing Features

This generator includes two independent numbering systems:

• Top/offset index numbers
• Centered unit numbers

The centered unit numbers allow the rod to function as a ruler-style reference, while the top/offset numbers provide a separate marking position.

Numbering can be configured by interval, so rods can show every unit, every 5th unit, or other spacing patterns.

Slab and Tick Options

The generator includes optional visual and functional marking features:

• Raised index slabs
• Recessed index slabs
• Raised tick marks
• Recessed tick marks
• End label slab option

These options can be used to make the rod easier to read, easier to paint, or easier to identify in a larger build.

Color Options

The file includes separate preview color controls for:

• Main rod color
• Raised slab color
• End label slab color
• Raised text color
• Raised tick color

These color controls are intended for previewing parts, planning multi-color prints, and setting up visually clear indexing.

Development Note

The generator labels, customizer option names, and wording are still being refined. I wanted to get this version out into the world so people can start using it, testing it, and building with it while the interface language continues to improve.

The core generator is usable, but some labels or option wording may be updated over time for clarity.
