Description
Mount Fuji - Incense Holder
Inspired by Japan's most revered peak, Mount Fuji turns a single backflow incense cone into a slow river of mist. Set a cone in the well at the summit and the smoke spills down the carved slopes of the mountain, pooling at the foot the way fog wraps the real Fuji. The peak lifts off a hollow base that quietly stores your spare cones, and you can bring it to life two ways: 3D printed for a snow-capped winter Fuji, or milled from solid wood on a Makera CNC for a warm, natural finish.
Design & Concept
I designed Mount Fuji around the moment smoke starts to behave like water. The summit holds a recessed well for the cone, and every slope is sculpted with the erosion channels of the real volcano, so the backflow smoke finds its path and runs down in thin streams instead of rising away. The mountain lifts off to reveal a hollow base that stores your cones, keeping the object self-contained on a shelf or a desk. I made this piece in two materials: a 3D printed version with a snow-white peak, and a version I cut from a block of solid wood on a Makera, where the grain of the timber turns each mountain into a one-of-a-kind object.
Key Features:
- Backflow Ritual: The sculpted summit guides backflow incense smoke down the slopes, recreating the mist that settles over Mount Fuji at dawn.
- Sculpted Topography: Ridges and gullies are modeled on the real volcano's erosion lines, so the smoke flows along natural channels.
- Print or Mill: The model ships ready to 3D print and as a version prepared for CNC milling, so you can make it in plastic or carve it from real wood on a Makera.
- Two-Part Design: A lift-off mountain sits over a hollow base, turning the silhouette into a working object.
- Hidden Cone Storage: The base doubles as a container for your spare incense cones, keeping the ritual entirely self-contained.
Printing Recommendations:
Summit (the mountain):
- Material: Matte PLA in white or light grey reproduces the snow-capped peak shown in the photos. The wood version was milled from solid timber on a Makera CNC.
- Layer Height: 0.12mm, set as a per-object override so the sculpted ridges stay crisp.
- Top Shell Layers: 5.
- Bottom Shell Layers: 3.
- Infill: 15% Gyroid.
- Brim: None.
Base (the container):
- Material: Matte PLA in a warm sand or stone tone to set off the summit.
- Top Shell Layers: 5.
- Bottom Shell Layers: 3.
- Infill: 15% Gyroid.
- Brim: None.
