âď¸ Customizer features:
- Custom typography: Type any name or word in the text_string field. The algorithm dynamically calculates the perfect outer border around your specific letters!
- AMS or NO-AMS: Choose exactly how you want to print! Select the ams_... presets to generate multi-color meshes for your Bambu AMS, or select the no_ams_... presets to generate the base tray, the honeycomb insert, and the text insert as separate physical parts.
- Auto-pocket recess: If printing without an AMS, select the recessed text mount type. The customizer will automatically carve perfectly sized pockets into the honeycomb layer so you can slot the text in directly with a drop of superglue.
- Tolerances built-in: The clearance slider mathematically shrinks the inserts so they slide into the base tray smoothly, regardless of your printer's accuracy.
- Smart keyring placement: The keyring loop can be placed on the left, right, or overridden entirely. The algorithm analyzes your text width and merges the loop flawlessly with the border.
đ§ Behind the design (For makers & moderators)
To generate a complex multi-part assembly that fits together in real life, this algorithm uses heavily nested 2D boolean offsets.
When you type a word, the code generates the text as a 2D vector. It then uses the offset(r = ...) command to puff out a mathematically perfect outer hull around the irregular shape of the letters. The honeycomb grid is mathematically trimmed precisely to this inner hull using an intersection(). For NO-AMS mode, a negative clearance offset is dynamically applied to the honeycomb mesh, guaranteeing it is exactly 0.15mm smaller than the outer tray, ensuring a flawless snap-fit after printing.
đ¨ď¸ Print settings:
- Material: PLA. (Matte PLA looks incredible for the base and text, while shiny PLA Basic makes the honeycomb pop). ABS/ASA and PETG also work fine.
- Layer height: 0.20mm works perfectly.
- Supports: STRICTLY NONE. All parts print completely flat on the build plate.
- Infill: 100% (There are so few layers that solid infill guarantees maximum strength for keys).
- Assembly (NO AMS): Print the base tray, the honeycomb insert, and the text insert separately. Add a few drops of superglue into the base tray, press the honeycomb in, and finally snap the text into the recessed pockets!
