Are You Ready to Organize your Paint Pens / Acrylic Markers!
Stack‑A‑Pen™ is a modular, stackable storage system designed for artists, makers, and hobbyists who rely on acrylic markers and paint pens. This 3D‑printed system brings order, visibility, and efficiency to your creative workspace — keeping your tools neatly organized, beautifully displayed, and instantly accessible.
Each tray holds six markers or paint pens, resting in curved troughs that prevent rolling and keep everything perfectly aligned. The system stores your pens horizontally, which is the manufacturer‑recommended orientation for acrylic paint pens and markers. Horizontal storage helps maintain even ink distribution, prevents pigment separation, and reduces the risk of dry tips — ensuring your pens stay vibrant and ready for use.
Design Philosophy
Stack‑A‑Pen™ was created with modularity, customization, and maker‑friendly printing at its core. Whether you’re organizing a small starter set or a full professional collection, this system adapts to your needs.
The design focuses on:
- Precision Alignment: Corner guide pins lock each tier into place for stable, perfectly aligned stacking.
- Modular Flexibility: Mix and match shelves, risers, thick bases, and lids to build your ideal setup.
- Instant Color Visibility: All marker and paint pen caps face forward, giving you quick access to every color.
- Clean Aesthetic: The curved troughs and smooth geometry create a professional, studio‑ready look.
- Scalable Storage: Add tiers as your collection grows — the system expands with you.
Component Options
- Standard Shelf Tier Holds six acrylic markers or paint pens. Curved troughs keep pens from rolling while maintaining perfect horizontal orientation.
- Thick Base Tier Provides extra height for the first row, improving visibility and access to lower pens.
- Riser Base Raises the entire system for improved reach and presentation — ideal for desks, shelves, or workbenches.
- Top Storage Options
- Flat Lid: A clean, minimalist finish for the top of your stack.
- Four‑Compartment Tray Lid: Adds functional storage for small parts, pen caps, mixing accessories, or other creative tools.
- Assembly Flexibility The trays stack securely without glue, but you can glue them for a permanent build. (Tip: Don’t glue the lid if you plan to add more tiers later.)

Why Horizontal Storage Matters
Acrylic markers and paint pens contain water‑based pigment that can settle or dry unevenly when stored vertically. Stack‑A‑Pen™ keeps them horizontal, ensuring:
- Balanced ink distribution
- Reduced risk of dry tips
- Consistent saturation
- Longer pen life
- Smooth, predictable ink flow
This simple design choice makes a big difference in the performance and longevity of your tools.
Benefits for Makers
- Organized Workspace: Every pen has a dedicated place.
- Instant Color Access: Caps face forward for quick identification.
- Expandable System: Add tiers as your collection grows.
- Customizable Build: Choose your combination of shelves, risers, bases, and lids.
- Clean, Modern Aesthetic: Looks great on any desk or shelf.
Comments, suggestions, and ratings help me improve future versions and let other makers know this design is worth their time.
Your input makes a real difference — whether it’s a quick rating, a photo of your build, or ideas for new modules. I love seeing how makers customize and use this system in their own creative spaces.
Thanks for supporting the design, and happy printing!
