OVERVIEW

This is a 1/400 scale miniature (aprox. 5.5cm tall) based on Unicorn Gundam (destroy mode) designed to be printed using 0.2mm nozzle.

DESIGN GOALS

After successfully completing the 1/400 Strike Gundam, I thought of pushing the envelope further on what can be achieved with a 0.2mm nozzle and to challenge myself as well. Besides, I feel that I can create a more improved printable model that produces lesser filament waste so I thought of employing an internal frame/skeleton as patterns running across the model would require lots of color changes and lots of waste. I minimized waste by using multi-color only on really small details that would otherwise be difficult to glue together.

… and which better Gundam model to showcase the internal frame than the Unicorn Gundam!

Based on the Gundam Wiki, the Unicorn Gundam in destroy mode is 21.7m in height, so a scale of 1/400 means I have to work on a model that is around 4.42cm small! Measuring the first few test prints of the internal frame showed that it's just a tad thicker than a matchstick!

Nonetheless, despite of the limitations, I decided to see if I can pull it off and this is the result of that effort. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed working on it!

PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. 0.2 nozzle is required to print this miniature.
  2. Print using Silent mode (50% speed) to prevent the parts from getting knocked out from adhesion.
  3. Make sure you have your print bed clean or use glue stick to ensure proper adhesion. Pls do not rate the model low due to adhesion issues as the model contains really small parts that do not have much area to adhere to the build plate.
  4. Parts are intentionally littered with supports to aid in bed adhesion. Be careful removing the supports and parts from the build plate as they are really small, thin parts.
  5. Some parts require CA/super glue for assembly.
  6. Don't get overwhelmed with the amount of parts in the build plates. I provided spare enough to build three (3) copies and as extra in case parts get messed up during printing or assembly.
  7. While it is tempting to use glow filament, PLS DO NOT as it will clog 0.2mm nozzles.
