Description

*** Update ***

I added an open-ended parametric model.  I am using this on the lead-end of the battery on my mobula8 so that I can put a cap on each end as I have been destroying batteries by scraping them on the ground.  First the plastic, then the foil…  This definitely works!  There is an additional variable in the parametric table for lip size so that it doesn't slip down the battery.  I printed with a tighter gap of .25 and .3 as well as changed the wall thickness to .8mm and a small number of holes since it is so thin.  See pics below.  The pics are at 2MM for that setting.

I created this parametric model to help protect lipo batteries in the event they are dropped, scraped, crashed, etc. Note that the holes are parametrically-generated based on the size of the protector, the hole size, the hole spacing, and the width of the corner and side edging. The formulas try to center the number of holes and you can break the model so examine the results before you print. I suggest the below settings then print a shortened-length of 25 or so MM (1”) to test the battery fit first before you print a full length protector. Lots of holes tightly spaced on a 1MM wall thickness will tear easily.

I have had the best overall luck with standard .2MM print layers and “generic” TPU 95A on my A1 mini using the following:

Wall Thickness – 1.25M

Hole Size – 2MM

Hole Spacing – 2MM

Corners (these edges are there to protect corners and side edges) – 4MM

Width and Height of battery – Actual

Length of battery – Actual

Tolerance (space between protector and battery so it’s not too tight) – .4MM

If you want a solid battery cover which protects much better, set the hole size to .01MM and not zero so there isn’t a divide by zero within the model. Only change the above parameters (Only Favorites) or you will break the parametric model.

I have a few more variations in development and will post them soon.
